Freedom Or Death – This Crowded Room [Orginal + Remix + Cover]

Posted on by Jason Trosclair Posted in Alternative/Rock, Dubstep, Electronic, Hip/Hop | 2 Comments

The eclectic duo, Freedom or Death has a very clear vision. It’s to create compelling art with potent substance and no restrictions. Their debut, self-titled EP expresses that to the fullest. One of our favorite tracks off the EP is “This Crowded Room”. The song opens with a hypnotizing vibrato loop that sets the vibe. Sway’s lush voice soon follows; and progresses with well layered vocal melodies, spread out in the mix. Minimal percussion and light guitars are later brought …

[Hip/Hop] Cookin’ Soul x Chuuwee – Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out (feat. Mayer Hawthorne)

Posted on by Jason Trosclair Posted in Hip/Hop | 1 Comment

The Spanish producers/DJs that make up the trio of Cookin’ Soul, recently released their newest mix-tape, “The Date Tape” . Joining them on the mic is up and coming rapper, Chuuwee. The Date Tape takes the listener on an emotional and educational tour on love and relationships. While the mix is solid from start to end, the stand out track is “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out (feat. Mayer Hawthorne)”. Hawthorne’s authentic, soulful crooning is mellow and painful, but beautiful. Chuuwee …

Tokyo Police Club – Favorite Coulour (PUNCHES Remix)

Posted on by Cydney Sisco Posted in Experimental | 1 Comment

Electronic trifecta PUNCHES said on their Myspace page that they want their music to “get you moving” and that’s exactly what they did with this happy remix. They took the the alternative rock song ‘Favorite Coulour’ from Tokyo Police Club’s latest album and added some nice piano work and a danceable beat to make a fresh sound with a good vibe. This is a perfect track for your road trip playlist or to blast while you are getting ready to …

[Uber bass!] Shirley Bassey – Diamonds Are Forever (Butch Clancy Remix)

Posted on by Blas Yaselli Posted in Dubstep, Electronic | 4 Comments

Dubstep has evolved. Deep from inside the shaking underground raves around the UK in the early 2000′s, only the few exposed to it could predicted its uprising. While Trance is alive and well (unfortunately) its being rapidly over-taken and over shadowed by a greater, more aggressive sporadic force of wobbles and half time drums. Dubstep is the new black and many dj’s cannot find themselves not influenced by it. I mean for fucks sake even Deadmau5 jumped on the bandwagon …

[Indie] The Steelwells – El Capitan

Posted on by Timothy Hudson Posted in Alternative/Rock | 2 Comments

Meet The Steelwells, an indie-rock outfit hailing from Fullerton, California. With a sound not dissimilar from fellow indie-rockers The Shins, The Steelwells’ almost sound like a more dreamy and relaxed Quiet Company. Very few songs I have heard in the past weeks have taken me on a musical journey, and El Capitan ranks right up there with the best of them. It’s hard not to bask in the glory of El Capitan’s sunny chords and vocals. The song may only …

[A Dreamy Xmas] Beach House – I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun

Posted on by Blas Yaselli Posted in Alternative/Rock, Experimental | 1 Comment

Another great Christmas treat that unlike our last post, it will definitely be more soothing as Beach House just released their winter jingle “I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun”. Apparently Christmas is just as dreamy as their 2010 album, Teen Dream. Enjoy. [Remix] Massive Attack – Red Light (Clark Remix)

Posted on by Jason Trosclair Posted in Electronic | 1 Comment

Massive Attack treated us to a few, unreleased, left-over tracks from the “Heligoland” sessions. One of those tracks; “Red Light” was given to Warp Records artist, Clark. How does a producer handle the pressure of remixing one of the originators of the Trip-Hop/Downtempo movement? Clark handled it the way he always does. His brilliant treatment of Massive Attack’s “Red Light” is solemn, but yet, transcendental. His re-vision fits perfectly in your ears. It will hurt you. You will fall in …

[Mixtape/House] Strongarm Sessions Special Edition #05 (Xmas 2010)

Posted on by Paul Martin Posted in Electronic | 1 Comment

Way back in 1996 when kids wore baggy pants and the internet looked like MS-DOS with a splash of colour, Simon ‘sHack’ Shackleton began work on his Elite Force project. After working on a truck load of remixes for some huge artists and getting his name out there, 2001 saw the birth of the now infamous Strongarm Sessions. Essentially these were 1 or 2 hour mixes of some of the hottest artists set against the classic Elite Force sound but …

[Fresh] Professor Green – Jungle (High Rankin Remix)

Posted on by Blas Yaselli Posted in Dubstep, Electronic | 3 Comments

The eccentric British Dubstep producer Will Rankin, better known as High Rankin has an excellent moustache and will fight anyone who disagrees or so he says. More importantly however, his new devastating remix of Professor Green‘s Jungle he put up on his soundcloud just yesterday is such a seductive fusion of dubstep and hip/hop. Jungle is already a dubstep friendly track with its slow and steady bassline, Proffesor Green’s agressive lyricism, and even minor wobbles in the background as the …

[Indie] Telekinesis – Car Crash

Posted on by Clayton Warwick Posted in Alternative/Rock | 1 Comment

Car Crash, by Seattle based indie-rockers Telekinesis, has a beautiful simplicity in structure and lyrics that bears a striking resemblance to Phoenix’s earlier work. The 4-chord driven catchy guitar, foot-tapping bass, and steady drum work play well with lead singer Michael Benjamin Lerner’s vocals. While the lyrics may have a darker meaning we’re not aware of, somehow this track will still make you grin and bounce your head back and forth. Just don’t do that while your driving – or …
