[Podcast] Music Ninja Radio – Episode 46 (Recap)

Music Ninja Radio
Episode 46

Music Ninja Radio is a weekly podcast broadcast live on San Francisco’s BFF.fm — Best Frequencies Forever. You can tune in here every Friday from 4-6PM PT / 7-9ET.

Last Friday’s show marks the one year anniversary since we took our talents to the airwaves of BFF in San Francisco’s best kept secret(alley). From deep in the Mission District, through the port of a pirate ship, we’ve been bringing the best of the best to your ears – Best Frequencies Forever wasn’t voted ‘Best Radio Station‘ in the Bay Area for nothing!

With that in mind, now seems as good a time as any to start providing our fellow Ninja readers with a weekly recap of our show, Music Ninja Radio aka Dojo by the Bay. Curating the best releases each week, themed shows coinciding with specific artist releases, and a fair amount of throwbacks sprinkled throughout, Music Ninja Radio has something for everyone.

The full show’s playlist can be found on the website’s archive here.

[Electronic] Alexander Lewis – Afternoon

Alexander Lewis.
Afternoon

Alexander Lewis always delivers. His consistency has yet to falter, and that comes as no surprise considering the amount of talent he surrounds himself with in Candid Music Group. On “Afternoon,” he decided to throw it back to his old style with a sampling of “Side 2 Side” by Brasstracks. With this switch-up, he formulated a precise balance of a lively melody coupled with a lavish wave of serene synths that seamlessly weave together into a wonderful surprise of a one-off tune.

This effort certainly departs from the heavier material that Alexander Lewis normally puts together, but little change-ups like this are always good for exploring something new and expanding horizons. In the process, many manage to revisit old influences that are revamped into something great, and that’s exactly the case that we’re witnessing here with “Afternoon.” Alexander Lewis has proven himself time and time again, and this fresh tune gives him a chance to kick up his feet and relax right along with us as we enjoy his most recent production. [Groove] Mark Johns – 5 South (Prod. Alexander Lewis) ft. Brasstracks

Mark Johns
5 South (Prod. Alexander Lewis) Ft. Brasstracks

Mark Johns is slowly gaining recognition with her sultry vocals, and the latest song she’s penned enlists the talents of Alexander Lewis and Brasstracks for a powerhouse of a Candid Music Group production team. Juggling a little deep house groove, this new song is quite the switch up from “In Paris.” It continues to showcase her range as a prime vocalist for the constantly evolving futuristic approach to music that’s gradually becoming a staple, especially in the SoundCloud community. It was rather nice of her to give US a present for her 21st birthday, and “5 South” delivers splendidly with the bright horns of the Brasstracks crew and the wavy craftsmanship of Alexander Lewis. Don’t miss out on the free download and be ready to see quite a bit more Mark Johns in the future!
