[Hip Hop] Big K.R.I.T- Confetti

Today we have the new single by Meridian, Mississippi’s favorite son Big K.R.I.T called “Confetti”. I have been a fan of Krit’s since his Return of 4eva mixtape in 2011, so when I saw he was posting cryptic posts on his Instagram I knew his return was imminent. This is the first release of Krit’s since his album Cadillactica came out in 2014 and boy this didn’t disappoint.

Krit talks about how rappers now a days are only focused on the now instead of their long term legacy and he uses confetti as an analogy when he raps, “Your confetti ain’t even heavy nigga/ Got the win, I want the record nigga/ What’s a crown if you don’t even protect it nigga/ What’s a name if they don’t respect it nigga/ Nah, your confetti ain’t even heavy nigga.”

Take for example the 2008 New England Patriots, throughout the regular season and playoffs they had a perfect season but all those games were worth nothing because they didn’t win the Super Bowl and didn’t have the “heavy confetti” like the champions do. Getting back to the music this track is perfect for Krit to let other artists know even though he’s been away he’s still hungry to hold the crown as the best rapper. This track has spacey keyboards, booming bass and guitar riffs in the beginning of the song that would make Jimi Hendrix proud. I encourage you to listen to this track because this has got me excited about what’s about to come with the inevitable release of Krit’s newest album.

[Hip-Hop] Raury – Forbidden Knowledge (feat. Big K.R.I.T.)

Raury
Forbidden Knowledge (feat. Big K.R.I.T.)

From the moment Raury hit the scene last year with “God’s Whisper” and his subsequent Indigo Child mixtape, the young Atlanta artist placed himself outside the boundaries of genre restriction. Even with such a broad range of styles that spans from folk to hip-hop, he’s managed to build a cohesive following who’ve come together over his music’s youthful energy and positive message. As he gears up to release his debut album next week, Raury has let loose what might be our favorite single yet.

“Forbidden Knowledge” features a minimal, ethereal instrumental that serves as the perfect canvas for Raury to display his abilities as an emcee. Delivering rhymes with a quick-hitting stream-of-conscious flow, the talented up ‘n comer displays an incredible level of lyricism as he explores issues of social injustice and inequality.  After two stellar verses from Raury, Big K.R.I.T., a legend in his own right, takes the mic adding wisdom of his own. The somewhat unexpected collaboration proves a powerful, thought-provoking one that showcases the versatility of both artists. All We Need drops is out via Columbia Records on October 16th and is available for pre-order here.

[Hip-Hop] Big K.R.I.T. – Cadillactica

Big K.R.I.T.
Cadillactica

Memphis-emcee Big K.R.I.T. takes listeners to the stars and beyond in a old school ride with his new single “Cadillactica”. The single comes fresh off the release of K.R.I.T.’s See Me On Top Vol. 4 release and is yet another chill listen. Mixing a tough, southern-flow with a catchy hook over DJ Dahi-production, this latest release should definitely be in heavy rotation for K.R.I.T. fans.

This tune finds K.R.I.T. jumping on the track with some quick-tongued bars reminiscent of old-school hip-hop. Definitely one that is meant for low-riding or chilling, this single is not necessarily K.R.I.T.’s best but it is certainly worth a listen for what it is. The young rapper even shows off some of his comedic skill on a short-skit towards the tail-end of the song. This is the third release from the upcoming project of the same name and is available for free when fans pre-order the album on iTunes, now.

MT. Olympus (Prod. By Big K.R.I.T.)

Southern producer and rapper Big K.R.I.T. never fails to surprise fans with a new track every now and then. After accruing 500,000 followers on Twitter, he took to the interwebs to drop another gem for our listening enjoyment. The track “Mt. Olympus” is a new kind of K.R.I.T., with the the Mississippi native dropping a fiery, aggressive flow about the fickle industry. Taking shots at the game that has, somewhat, shunned him from reaching mainstream notoriety, K.R.I.T. also takes a moment to spit a reply to Kendrick‘s “Control” verse. The self-produced single is a pretty dope first listen of what is to come from his upcoming sophomore project Cadillactica, dropping soon.

For the third installment of his “Week of K.R.I.T.” series, Big K.R.I.T. hooks up with the Trap Lord himself, A$AP Ferg on the impeccably smooth “Lac Lac.” Produced by K.R.I.T. himself, “Lac Lac” is a laidback hip-hop masterpiece, with the Mississippi native utilizing his confident drawl to keep listeners engaged, while Ferg’s flow evokes memories of classic Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. In our previous post, we mentioned that K.R.I.T. seemed to be returning with a whole new level of focus as he prepares for the release of Cadillactica, and these last two efforts have certainly restored our faith in his abilities. Although Big K.R.I.T.‘s 2012 debut album Live From The Underground received widespread critical appraise, it never really made the commercial impact to help the Mississippi native breakthrough to the mainstream. After returning back to the underground and releasing his King Remembered In Time mixtape in 2013, it appears K.R.I.T. has finally reemerged with a “New Agenda” to seize the throne. Teaming up with Rick Ross on this bonafide Southern cooked banger, “New Agenda” serves as the first single from Cadillactica, K.R.I.T’s sophomore project, and helps kick off the “Week of K.R.I.T.” in which the artist plans to release seven new singles from today through Sunday.
