[Hip-Hop] Asher Roth – Pot of Gold

Asher Roth
Pot of Gold (Prod. Blended Babies)

It’s been a minute since we last heard from college rapper Asher Roth, but the young spitter graces the interwebs to drop off a new track for our listening enjoyment. His new single, “Pot of Gold,” is a signature chill track that echoes the sound Roth has been experimenting with for the past few releases.

The laidback mood and wavy Blended Babies production fit well with Roth’s mellow flow. It seems as if he’s more on the serious side or may have just recorded this track after waking up with a vicious hangover from partying the night before. Irregardless, this track is a subtle listen. Be sure to stay on the lookout for his upcoming, long-delayed sophomore project RetroHash, dropping January 7th.

The Hip-Hop Dojo [Vol. 15]

Guess who’s baaaaaaccckk? Did you miss me? The Hip-Hop Dojo’s finally ready to reopen its doors for business, and I’ve got plenty to share with you today. I’ve traveled far and wide, sailed across the seven seas, climbed the highest peaks, and braved the hottest deserts to hone my craft, learning from the very best, meditating, and planning my return (basically picture the whole training sequence from Batman Begins). In all honesty though, I appreciate your patience over the last few months, and hope I can finally get back on my grind to deliver you the freshest hip-hop product on a consistent basis.

So without further ado, let’s get this party started. This very special fifteenth edition of The Hip-Hop Dojo features plenty of familiar names, from hip-hop heavyweights like Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Raekwon and Kendrick Lamar, to Dojo frequenters like Kings Dead, MeLo-X, Audio PushTito Lopez, and Devine Carama. We’ve even got a few fresh faces for y’all like Michael Christmas, Dom McLennon, A La $ole, GoldLink, and Fresco Nerd. Given the sheer size of our comeback playlist (over 45 tracks!), I’ll keep it light on the words this week to conserve your precious time and keep you focused on the music. However, if you like what you hear from any of these artists and want to check out any relevant projects from them, I’ll include a link roll below.

We hope you guys enjoyed our fifteenth edition of The Hip-Hop Dojo as much as we did! As always, you can send all submissions/suggestions to baseer@themusicninja.com and ash@themusicninja.com.

[Hip-Hop] Chance The Rapper – Acid Rap

As we’ve touched on before, Chicago has been a mecca for extraordinary young talent in hip-hop recently. While Chitown has always has always had representation from some of the hottest lyricists in the game, the city’s been yearning for its next big star. We may have found the answer in Chance The Rapper. After months of anticipation, we finally have our hands on Acid Rap, the follow-up to last year’s debut mixtape, 10 Day. It’s remarkable to see how far Chance has come in just one year. His flow is still whimsical and melodic, and his rhymes are as witty as ever, yet it’s evident through his music that Chance has definitely matured. He’s also accrued a couple of nice cosigns since we last heard from him, including the likes of Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, Ab-Soul and Twista. Take this “chance” to check out a few of the standout tracks below, and make sure to give your blessing by downloading the tape here.

[Hip-Hop] Asher Roth – Dude (feat. Curren$y)

Asher Roth took to Twitter a few minutes ago to drop off a new track featuring the always dope New Orleans emcee, Curren$y. Over the minimal, but dope, production of Blended Babies, Roth spits an entertaining, goofy stream of consciousness demonstrating why he is one of the more underrated rappers out right now. Curren$y, fresh off one of his dopest projects yet, picks up the pace a bit in his verse with out losing the light feel of the song. Stream and download this gem below.
