[Electronic] Bon Iver – Over Soon (Super Duper Remix)

Bon Iver
Over Soon (Super Duper Remix)

Whenever a highly anticipated album drops, you can always expect a slew of unofficial edits and remixes to begin showing up within the first week or so of the release. What you don’t always expect, however, is that many of these will actually be quality releases instead of simply a chance to capitalize on SEO. Super Duper is here to put any and all notion of that mess to bed with an absolutely stunning edit of 22, A Million‘s first track, “22 (OVER S∞∞N)”.

This remix may seem on the shorter side (clocking in at a concise 2:28), but it’s calculated build to final minute sets the stage for an incredible resolution and rendition of an incredible song. Having the foresight to instantaneously create such a stark production speaks to the capability and innovation of Super Duper, and, luckily for us, he’s got plenty of new music on the way. What’s wild is this edit was JUST FOR FUN. However you choose to approach unofficial remixes, always know that there will be diamonds in the rough, and Super Duper is certainly proving that notion right while doing the original justice with a powerful and striking interpretation. Be sure to check out Super Duper’s recent original, “Angela“, also!

[Electronic] Bon Iver – Heavenly Father (Modus Coco Remix)

Heavenly Father (Modus Coco Remix)

Everyone and their mother has remixed Bon Iver to the point where it’s almost unappealing. We can give you ten “Skinny Love” remixes off the top of our heads as we write this. Justin Vernon’s genius is well recognized throughout the world, especially in the music community, so it is very rare to find a tribute that stands out from the rest of the pack. However, Modus Coco continues his sensational debut as a solo artist as he puts his gorgeously enchanting spin on “Heavenly Father”, Vernon’s latest and greatest single. Coco, formerly of Shapes of Light fame, has given us a couple originals and a Sufjan Stevens remix, however this might be his best work yet. He breathes new life into the composition with new melodies and distorting Vernon’s voice to an almost ethereal level. We are absolutely in love with this piece and we hope you are as well!

[Soundtrack] Wish I Was Here – Bon Iver, The Shins, & More

Ten years ago Zach Braff’s last film Garden State did wonders for propelling indie, specifically The Shins, into the mainstream spotlight. It seems Wish I Was Here, his Kickstarter-funded forthcoming directorial sophomore effort, will be similarly musically inspired, with a soundtrack boasting many of the screenwriter and star’s favorite artists, including Paul Simon and The Head And The Heart.

The Shins appear once again with shimmering new tune “So Now What,” with frontman James Mercer taking a break from side-project Broken Bells to write the song specifically for this sountrack. Just as wistful and dreamy as they were a decade ago, the now Portland-based sextet seem eager to reunite with Braff with lines like “I guess we’ll just begin again / I hope you know you’re my best friend” making up the soaring chorus lifted by Mercer’s gentle and softened falsetto.

Another new track commissioned for Wish I Was Here is Bon Iver’s eerie and minimalistic “Heavenly Father.” Justin Vernon’s vocals layer over a looping synth vibration in what, according to NPR, was an incredibly spontaneous recording:

“They were enjoying it and laughing, but at a certain point, they just got quiet. When it was over, Justin started humming. We talked afterwards about the relationship between Zach’s character and his brother [Josh Gad], and Justin and Nate talked a little about their father — all the while Justin kept distractedly humming. Eventually, he sang out the words ‘heavenly father.’ Before I even left their house, Justin was recording the first version of the song in his downstairs studio. His inspiration was that immediate.”

The complete soundtrack is due out July 15 via Columbia with the film hitting theaters three days later. There will be a separate vinyl release on August 5, with Garden State’s soundtrack being reissued the same day. Check out the tracklist below:

01 The Shins “So Now What”

03 Radical Face “The Mute”
04 Hozier “Cherry Wine (Live)”

08 Cat Power & Coldplay “Wish I Was Here”

12 Bon Iver “Heavenly Father”

[Indie] POLIÇA – Tiff (feat. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon)

POLIÇA
Tiff (feat. Justin Vernon)

God. This is just bliss. If you’re unfamiliar with Poliça, today is your lucky day. The band, led by sensual vocalist, Channy Leaneagh, put out an excellent debut in 2012. Titled Give You The Ghost, it was the perfect combination of sexy electronica and smooth R&B — I mean, it’s certainly etched a spot in my playlist even after more than a year(!) — leaving many listeners anxious for more. Now, this week we get a new single called “Tiff”, featuring another infallible singer, Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon. By default, it should be damn good…and it totally is. Listen in.

New: Kanye West – Lost In The World f/ Bon Iver (Tiësto Remix)

Kanye West and Tiesto, two juggernauts in their respective genres, can now be experienced together in one single track. An unlikely union, the remix of ‘Lost In The World’ had been circling around the web ever since Tiesto dropped it on his Miami Ultra 2011 set. After waiting for clearance Tiesto recently put it up on his podcast for our listening pleasure. Expecting something more mellow and house, Tiesto gives us a fast paced attitude filled rendition of the track that is actually much satisfying and original than some of his previous remixes to date.

Here is a radio rip:

[Catch-UP Playlist] What we missed late June 2011

June was a difficult month as I was traveling for personal reasons and at times it was hard to really hammer out some posts. With that said, all that is behind me and I dedicate this post to everyone that didn’t quite have the time to catch up on some new music. Not all songs below were released just on June but I have added others that I think we should have discovered sooner. ZIP Coming soon. Enjoy!

[Video] Kanye West – “Monster”

Dark, a little creepy and maybe even a bit too over the top, the official video for Kanye West’s Monster is finally here (it had leaked last year). Featuring appearances by Rick Ross, Jay Z and a schizophrenic Nicki Minaj, the only thing that was missing was Bon Iver (they could at least have thrown in front man Justin Vernon). What you guys think?
