[Event Preview] CRSSD Festival – San Diego 3/14-3/15

Spring is around the corner, which means that it’s almost festival season! As one of our first stops, TMN is going to the CRSSD festival in San Diego. Taken place at the Waterfront Park on March 14 and 15, CRSSD fest features some of the frontrunners and up-and-comers in today’s electronic music. Powerhouses including Empire of the Sun, Chromeo, Odesza, Flight Facilities are headlining the festival at the “Ocean View Live” stage, while deeper acts like Kaytranada, Thomas Jack, Bakermat and Bixel Boys will try to win the crowd at “The Palms” stage.

The three-stage set up will definitely give a refreshing feel to all festival-goers. Thousands will gather at Waterfront Park and dance their pants off while overseeing the beautiful city of San Diego. With its popularity rising at such a high rate, CRSSD festival is representing sunny San Diego by stepping its game up. [Electro] Chromeo – Lost On The Way Home (Shash’U Remix)

CHROMEO
LOST ON THE WAY HOME feat. SOLANGE (SHASH'U PWRFNK REMIX)

Funk powerhouse Chromeo is a popular target for remixes. This time around, Montreal DJ, producer and songwriter Shash’U did a rework of their song “Lost On The Way Home.” Having similar musical style, Shash’U juices up the funk in this tune even more and certainly does his fellow homies justice. The slapping bass drives the whole tune, and when it’s mixed in with David Macklovitch and Solange‘s voices, you can’t help but get up and dance your life away.

Give this gem a listen and be sure to check out Chromeo’s new album White Women!

Today, the Canadian duo unleashed “Jealous,” yet another testament to their ability to capture the groove of old-school funk, while utilizing the new age sounds of EDM.

This is one that will have you dancing regardless of where you are or who is watching–or maybe that’s just me. Enjoy above and look out for White Women, which is set to drop in May and has all the makings of a great project.

[House] Chromeo ft. Toro Y Moi – Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

There’s absolutely no denying the immense pop power of Chromeo and Toro Y Moi‘s latest collusion “Come Alive”, which is without a doubt one of the catchiest and alluring tunes in everyone’s stream of consciousness at the moment, and to think any more energy could be symbiotically added on top was pretty far fetched before today. Enter Le Youth. The enigmatic L.A. based House and Nu-Disco producer – who by the way throws down some of the funnest live sets going on in the house clubs right now – impels a heavy dose of vigorous hi-hat shuffle, and four-four kick to bring both Dave1 and Chaz Bundick’s unmistakable vocals straight into the dance hall. Our real sense of enjoyment on Le Youth’s remix however was an impeccable employment of that tried and true classic house piano a la Marshall Jefferson that was made so famous all the way back in ’86, giving off a vibrant shine while adding another layer of depth to the entire movement. It’s early, but we assume more producers will take a crack at reassembling “Come Alive”, but for us right now, Le Youth takes the cake.

Over Your Shoulder

Don’t look “Over Your Shoulder” but 2013 has pretty much all but flown by. As daunting as that may sound though, we still have plenty of time to soak up some good tunes this year, with a few of our favorite artists still yet to release their highly anticipated projects. We can now add one more group into the mix as Chromeo returns onto the scene with a smashing new single (yes, I did just use smashing there). In all seriousness though, this funky new track continues the disco revival we’ve been hearing all year, and I can assure you, we are definitely not complaining. Do yourself a favor and download a free copy of the single above, and check out the trailer for Chromeo’s upcoming album, White Women, below.
