Watch Performances From Last Night’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards

Let’s face it: the Grammy’s blow. They’re a total misrepresentation of the actual trends happening in music, and are usually at least two to three steps behind the curve. The Recording Academy is out of touch with the culture, and while the awards still have some meaning to them, the show lacks the same significance it had in previous generations. With that mini rant out of the way, I would like to congratulate all of last night’s winners, and don’t want to take anything away from the artists themselves or any of their accomplishments. What we are here to do today is highlight one of the positive aspects of the show: the performances. From 33 couples getting married during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ rendition of “Same Love,” Kendrick Lamar‘s frenetic display during an insane mashup of “M.A.A.D. City” and “Radioactive” with Imagine Dragons, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr re-uniting as one half of The Beatles, and finally to Jay-Z and Beyoncé giving us a glimpse into their chemistry together on stage, this year’s awards had plenty to offer in terms of entertainment value. Check out some of the best ones below, and let us know your thoughts on which one was your favorite.

Daft Punk, Pharrell, Nile Rodgers & Stevie Wonder

Sunday Night Soul [Vol. 6]

Hope your chestnuts are roasting over an open fire, because tis the season to be soulful (or something to that effect). Here at The Music Ninja, we’ve really gotten into the spirit of the Holidays. [Remix] Daft Punk – Get Lucky (T.I. Remix)

Daft Punk
Get Lucky (Remix) (Feat. Pharrell & T.I.)

Although he’s commonly known as the King of the Trap, T.I. has no problems with getting in touch with his inner pimp. He’s already explored this side of his personality on such singles as “My Love” with Justin Timberlake, and most recently, “Blurred Lines” alongside Robin Thicke and Pharrell. One thing that seems certain as we listen to this remix of Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky,” is that it definitely doesn’t seem to be official. Hell, it’s even debatable whether Tip’s verse was specifically recorded for this track all, as his flow sounds a bit discordant at times. However, we might just be able to chalk that up to the fact that this song was never meant to have a rap remix. Even so, it’s fun to hear exactly how one would turn out. Do you guys think T.I. did an admirable job on this one?

[NEW] Kanye West – I Am A God (Prod. Daft Punk)

Kanye West
I Am A God

As I’m sure you already know by now, Kanye West’s Yeezus has experienced a case of the leaks. Depending on how you look at it, that’s either a triumph for the internet or a failure for Ye. Yeezy’s been heralded as one of the most paranoid, tight-lipped artists’ out there, taking every measure to prevent his album from leaking, even going so far as to ensure that there would be no pre-order streams to get hacked into. Despite all his efforts though, the album wasn’t able to release on his own terms. Much mystery still remains around the album, with an official tracklist yet to be revealed. While we won’t be sharing the leak with you, I’m sure you can do some digging to easily find a copy on your own. Instead, we’re providing you with a chance to hear one of the album’s most talked about tracks, “I Am A God” which according to sources was produced by Daft Punk–one of the few artists to cause this much hysteria around the release of their album earlier this year. Check out the supposed final tracklist–including credits–below, and make sure to grab a copy of Yeezus when it officially drops on June 18th.  Continue reading

[Album Stream] Daft Punk – Random Access Memories

We finally have it in our hands folks (well, kind of). Daft Punk has kindly decided to allow us to stream the entire album for free through iTunes in preparation for its release next week. No longer do we have  speculate on what’s authentic and what’s not. No longer do we have to wince at low quality rips of supposed leaks from false foreign radio stations. And no longer do we have to plant ourselves on YouTube as we continually loop through 15 second clips over and over again. We can now safely listen to the material straight from the source, and it feels quite satisfying to say the least. Check out the stream at the link below, and make sure to prepare yourself for May 21st when we’ll all finally have a copy of the most anticipated record of the year.

The endless tease that has surrounded Daft Punk for years is finally coming to a halt today, as we get what appears to be the first single from their ridiculously anticipated upcoming album. For anyone who was at Coachella, “Get Lucky” was the song being previewed all weekend in between sets.
