[Mixtape] Childish Gambino – STN MTN

Seemingly appearing out of thin air, Childish Gambino has finally released his much anticipated Gangsta Grillz mixtape, STN MTN. Part of an innovative two part mixtape/EP called STN MTN / KAUAI, this is just the first half of the project, with the second half set for release on iTunes very soon. The mixtape features Bino hopping on instrumentals we traditionally wouldn’t expect him on, such as Future‘s “Move That Dope” or Lil Wayne‘s “Go DJ,” while continuing to experiment with various other new sounds.

Although we don’t have a release date for KAUAI yet, here’s what Bino recently told Complex about the project:

“It’s a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that goes into an EP. The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is a dream, and the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other; it’s one complete project. You can download the mixtape and you can go buy the EP. The money from the EP goes to help with keeping Kauai clean.”

[Hip-Hop] BET Hip-Hop Awards 2013: The Cyphers

The BET Hip-Hop Awards finally aired earlier tonight, and while I personally am not a huge fan of the show, there’s one segment that I eagerly anticipate every year: The Cyphers. The Cyphers are really where the event truly shines, bringing together some of the most talented emcees in the game, underground and mainstream. This year’s lineup is certainly a formidable one, featuring the likes of TDE, A$AP MobSlaughterhouseAction BronsonTravi$ ScottRittzJon Connor, and even some jokes courtesy of J.B. SmooveKevin Hart, and Nick Cannon. Check out the cyphers below, and let us know who you think went in the hardest (we’re guessing the popular answer will be Kendrick Lamar).

[Hip-Hop] Kendrick Lamar – The Art of Peer Pressure

Compton’s golden child Kendrick Lamar continues to pick up enormous amounts of momentum for the release of his upcoming album with Interscope Records as yet another powerful track hit the web late last night. “The Art of Peer Pressure” paints a vivid picture of an ever familiar story with the detailed and insightful commentary that only Kendrick can really pull off. Although the tale seems to be set in Lamar’s hometown, it is one that most can in some way relate to. While there hasn’t been official confirmation that this will be featured on his highly anticipated project, this cut fits nicely with the first single and the narrative we wold expect from its title, Good Kid m.A.A.d. City. Give this thought-provoking cut a listen below and make sure you grab a copy of the album on October 22nd.
