[Groove] Dornik – Stand in Your Line (Jungle Edit)

Dornik
Stand In Your Line (Jungle's Edit)

With a grueling touring schedule since the release of their fantastic debut album last year, Jungle have been relatively quiet in the last few months save for some phenomenal remixes of their tracks by top producers. Last week, though, they put out an edit of a track from a fellow-UK artist named Dornik. The original version of “Stand in Your Line” is a slow-burning, electronic-tinted R&B jam showcasing Dornik’s abilities as a songwriter, vocalist and versatile producer. Jungle keep those silky vocals intact while transforming the backdrop to reflect their signature groove-filled, yet soulful, style. The end result finds what was initially a gorgeous, laid-back song become a sunny anthem that we could easily imagine getting down to at one of Jungle’s awesome live sets.

For us, the real icing on top of the cake with this one was discovering Dornik, who’s self-titled debut album, which dropped ten days ago, is a true diamond in the rough that flawlessly traverses electronic funk, soul and R&B with a distinctive retro-’80s tint. If you’re a fan of artists like Shamir or Gallant, we’d definitely recommend giving it a peep–you can grab a copy here or stream via Apple Music//Spotify at those links.

[R&B/Synth-pop] Dornik – Something About You

Dornik
Something About You

Is it completely unfair to say that it seems like all the best music seems to be coming from the UK these days? Or is just that we somehow only notice the great ones from across the pond here? Either way, one thing is perfectly clear: Dornik is a can’t miss artist. Signed to PMR Records and already garnering endorsements from the likes of Jessie Ware and Disclosure (who’ve compared him to the late, great Michael Jackson), Dornik seems primed to make it big. While comparisons to The King of Pop may seem ambitious, they’re not entirely gratuitous. It’s not exactly through his voice where the resemblance is first noticed, but more his style and approach to his music. “Something About You” is a track that draws inspiration from the past, but doesn’t feel stuck in it, providing the listener with a fresh and evocative experience. There’s just something about the soothing vocals that makes you want to kick back and relax by the pool, but also get up and dance your ass off at the same time. This is definitely one to keep as a fixture in your playlists this summer. There’s no word on when we’ll hear more from Dornik, but stay tuned as I’m sure you’ll see him around these pages again very soon.
