[Hip-Hop] Emay – WarmupSongdoe

Emay
II WarmupSongdoe

Although it seems like he’s constantly disappearing for months at a time, we always enjoy the moments when Emay pops his head out of the ground to provide us with some fresh music. Though the releases are few and far between, you can be sure that they’ll always be of the highest quality. “WarmupSongdoe” might just be a training exercise to help the emcee get his legs back under him, but it has all the hallmarks of a typical Emay masterpiece: a perfectly utilized sample, thundering bass, intricate wordplay and witty punchlines that require multiple listens to fully comprehend. It’s kind of scary to imagine what the man can accomplish if this is what he sounds like when he’s rusty. At this point, we’re just eagerly anticipating the announcement of a new project, so we can get our Emay in much larger servings.

’Emay – Wudhu “Cleanlinessness” (Demo)’

We haven’t heard much from Emay since last year’s instrumental project, Into It. Well, it finally looks like the Montreal native is ready to take command of the mic again, letting go of a brand new demo called, “Wudhu (Cleanliness).”  We’ve always been fans of the emcee’s stream of consciousness flow, and his production is still on a whole different level, as he blends together a distorted, harmonious sample with a simple, pounding drum pattern to produce a vivid, awe inspiring instrumental.

The song’s title makes reference to the process of cleansing oneself that Muslims practice before every prayer. Could that signal that Emay is ready to make a fresh start? Let’s hope so, because we’ve waited way too long to hear a new project from the talented young wordsmith.

[Hip-Hop/Experimental] Emay – Into It

Many of you out there may already be familiar with Emay, but for those of you who aren’t, you’ve been missing out on some fantastic music. The young Canadian emcee has already proven he has an innate knack for music, creating a formative sound that’s easily recognizable, yet never stale. While traditionally wearing the dual hat of both a rapper and producer on many of his songs, Emay takes a break away from the mic on this one, giving us a closer glimpse into the creative process involved in creating his distinctive beats.

He does an excellent job on his brand new Into It EP, a play on the word Intuit, the title of the Ramona Falls album from which the project’s source material comes.  While most samples involve taking a minute portion of a song and looping it over continuously, Emay does a great job of complementing the original work instead, and employing his unique talents to transform the tracks completely.

If you like what you hear from Emay, you can download the EP from Potholes Music right here. Also, if you’d like to hear the man spit some bars as well, make sure to check out the rest of his music on his official website.
