[NEW] Raury – God’s Whisper (Flosstradamus & Aryay Remix)

Flosstradamus
God's Whisper (Flosstradamus & Aryay Remix)

After teasing this epic collaboration on their Instagram two weeks ago, Chicago’s Flosstradamus have let loose their Aryay-assisted remix of the talented Raury‘s “God’s Whisper,” one of the strongest songs of the year. Raury’s folk-leaning original makes this an unlikely track for Floss to take on, but the end result is enormous serving as yet another testament to the versatility of the production duo and fellow Chi-town native Aryay. This one is a true testament to the growing cross-genre collaboration in music feeling like a triumphant clash of two potent youth movements. Stream, and grab a free download, above. [Event Review] Mad Decent Block Party – San Diego

(PC: Fixation Photography)

Last Sunday, following the recent heat wave that everybody would soon forget about, Mad Decent took their members and friends to sunny San Diego. The venue is located at Park Boulevard and Imperial Avenue near Petco Park and downtown SD. With only one giant stage put in the parking lot area, the artists definitely brought down the house with their high-energy performances and star power. Participating in this year’s lineup, we have artists like Cashmere Cat, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Laidback Luke, STRFKR, Thurz, TJR and Zeds Dead. It was a great mix of music, showing off their roster and connections with diversity.

With Kaytranada‘s set being cancelled due to personal reasons, STRFKR started off the one-day festival with some of their indie psych rock music to get the crowd in the mood. They put on a great show as people were just starting to roll into the venue and vibing their way into the crowd. Their mellow and enjoyable tunes are the epitome of a great band performing at a great festival.

Next up we have Thurz, a member of the underground hip-hop duo U-N-I. It was a smart choice for him to come on after an indie band. His high-energy performance definitely got the crowd going by playing some familiar rap songs and some of his own. At this point there was already a good amount of people in the audience, slowly and reluctantly making their way into the front of the stage even though the immense heat was getting onto everybody. Cashmere Cat, who was the next act, warmed up the crowd even more with his clever remixes of trap and hip hop tracks. His music covers a wide range of genres and sub-genres which take everybody on a fun and exciting joyride of both hype and chill music.

TJR was definitely the dark house of the festival. For those who weren’t familiar with who he is, the crowd referred him as “the mysterious bald guy who stole the show at Mad Decent”. The talented producer from Connecticut showcased his skillset with a variety of turn-up jams spanning the trap, house and funk genres. He incorporated funky drops and fast-paced trap beats into remixes of popular songs, which got the crowd pumped up like no other. His jaw-dropping performance definitely left the crowd in awe.

As the sun set and the heat gradually submerged into the horizon, the crowd was all warmed up and ready to get crazy. From the moment Laidback Luke got on stage, that’s when the real block party started. The Dutch DJ/producer got everybody on their feet and bobbing their head left and right with his incredible electro/deep house goodness. It is difficult as a house DJ to channel the right energy into a crowd at an open stage/venue, but Laidback Luke did just that. With lasers shining at your eyeballs, you just couldn’t help but dance your pants off to these hard-hitting house beats.

One amazing act following another, the artist introduced and welcomed Flosstradamus on stage. This is what the crowd came here to see, and what Floss were the best at doing. Needless to say, the Chicago-based duo delivered and killed it with style. The crowd was super loud and riled up, especially when they dropped a song like “Mosh Pit”, that there were a good amount of moshing going on throughout his set. To bring up the energy even more, the two hype men brought out special guest Waka Flocka, who gave his 110% at pumping up the stage with his anger and aggressiveness.

The headliner of the festival and Mad Decent’s frontman, Diplo, was undoubtedly the best act of the night. With so much energy and creativeness in his performance, Diplo always brings the most entertaining and trendiest electronic music to the stage. Mixing hip-hop with trap and electronica, the 35-year-old veteran never ceases to amaze everyone and never stops the innovation of his music. From taking off his shirt to bringing girls on stage for a twerk contest, Diplo sure knows what the crowd wants to hear and see. There was never a dull moment in the entire duration of Diplo’s set, and the crowd got about as loud and turnt up as they could be.

Amongst the shuffling pits, dance circles, exchange of kandies and fist pumping, the celebration never stopped for the Mad Decent crowd. Ending the night with a bang, Zeds Dead provided everyone with some hardcore drum & bass and dubstep. At this point, the lasers and lights were in full throttle. And with the heavy bass shaking the whole place down, you just couldn’t help but viciously headbang back and forth.

By assembling their roster and inviting friends and fellow artists to perform at their shows, Mad Decent has done it once again. With that said, our Ninja crew will be back for next year’s block party. We can’t wait to see what these talented performers have in store for us in the near future.

The Trap Dojo #37 + [TMN Premiere] Wild Belle – Keep You (Team Bayside High Premiere

I’m sure if you’re a regular Trap Dojo listener the name Team Bayside High is familiar, and this week, we’re very stoked to be bringing you the premiere of their brand new remix of Chicago indie rockers Wild Belle’s new single “Keep You”.  This remix keeps some of Wild Belle’s soulful lyrics but packs it full of heavy hitting bass along with the deep horns of the original. Watch out for the second drop with a high spacey riff that will definitely have you coming back again and again. Team Bayside High has been all over the map with the material that they choose to remix and have yet to disappoint. They also released an original tune this week called “Gold Heart” that’s featured later on the list, proving that they can craft their own tunes just as well as they can remix. You probably heard the new Knife Party EP Haunted House, and next up CRNKN turns the song “LRAD” into a huge hard-hitting trap machine.  Not much needs to be said about this next track other than its an RL Grime remix of “Love Sosa” by Chief Keef. Last week we included the original version of this Yellow Claw track, and now the homies Watapachi turn it up to 11.  Flosstradamus samples all those great lines about asses from “Mercy” for this booty-dropping anthem, with enough bass that would really feel like an “Assquake” when played on the right system. Next up is an awesome Justin Timberlake remix from Ricky Vaughn. This is the third JT remix he’s released and the third one to really impress me, and he’s said that he has more on the way. Next up we’ve got a bunch of Hip-Hop and Grime infused Trap before getting back to the more electronic side with J.Rabbit, Big Chocolate, Carnage, Dan Farber  and more. The last few songs really cool things down and the list ends with an amazing remix of the classic tune “Smoke Rings (Where Do They Go)”  perfect for a lazy summer evening.

The Trap Dojo #35

Last week we included the newest tune from TNGHT, “Acrylics”. A massive tune in its own right, but this week, DonKong had a fever, for which the only cure was more cowbell and absolutely turned it up in this remix. Next, the newest dancefloor anthem from Macklemore gets a huge trap twist from Dance Floor Junkies. With a brainmelting drop filled with lazers and horns, this is sure to keep everybody’s hands up and get all of the party people sweating. A new song from Flosstradamus is always something to get us excited, and this 4/20 special is no exception. The first of many smokers anthems we’re bringing you this week, this FKi collab is just as hazy as you would expect, with killer lyrics. TastyTreat also released an awesome 4/20 banger using Christina Milan and Lil Wayne‘s lyrics and chopping them up with some finely crafted synths for an emotionally charged dancefloor beast. Lil Wayne isn’t going away yet though as Sam F Brings us another hectic remix. Rihanna gets a trip to the trap by The Cataracts & Borgeous. The rest of the list is filled with bangers, with every influence from the most gangster of rap to progressive house and hardstyle. Zombass & Huoratron get very dark and occultist at the end before some deep night time vibes take over to finish it off.

[Festie Review] Snowball – Winter Park, CO

As fireworks reflected off the snow covered grounds of Winter Park, as insane light shows reflected off the neighboring mountains, as music goers covered from head-to-toe in snow gear jumped up and down continuously as incredible artist after artist took to the stages, Snowball 2013 can rate itself up there as one of Colorado’s best winter time festivals.

The layout was set up perfect with one main stage and two tents, each far enough away from one another that you could hear each artist clearly but close enough you could dance your way from set to set without freezing your buns off. There were plenty of great vendors, lots of delicious warm food and heating areas so when the toes and fingers needed a quick warm-up people had a place to go.

The festival started off with a bang Friday with the musical talents of Zion I, Porter Robinson, Krewella, Kendrick Lamar and ending the night was none other than a Rado favorite, Big Gigantic. Kendrick Lamar gave the crowd poetic justice and a hell of a lot more. He took that stage and showed just what a true rap artist he was; his vocals crystal clear, his words flowing with the rhythms and his stage presence captivating. Then Big G got on the stage and lit it up, literally and figuratively. Their light show is one for the books and their live musical instrument set is what ranks them up there with one of the best live performances to see. It takes a true artist to be able to go on stage and play their instrument live and these boys do it with such ease.

Saturday Winter Park saw a down pour of snow but that did not stop any of the festival goers from making their way to see the shows. More layers, hand warmers and a nice hot beverage got this day off to a great start. I have to give a shout out to Luminox. During his set, his computer screen was distorted and he couldn’t see what he was playing. But instead of throwing in the towel, he busted out a desktop screen, plugged in his laptop, and kept dropping some unbelievable trap. Kudos Lum, huge kudos. Portugal the Man and Datsik brought amazing energy to the day and the night was finished with Colorado’s favorite man of lights, Pretty Lights. Derek Vincent Smith, the name given by his mother who is always in the crowd supporting, has never failed to put on a captivating and memorable show. Between the light show and PL’s choice of tunes, from his new hits all the way back to some old favorites like Radiohead’s “Everything in its Right Place”, PL shut down the night leaving everyone’s bodies in a state of music euphoria.

Sunday was no day for rest for this festival with huge artists still stacked. K Theory, Ishi, Grizmatik and Flosstradamus were just a few names who threw down the dub, the jazz and the dirty trap. Then the perfect closer for the ultimate snow weekend, STS9 took to the main stage. This instrumental band mixes the sounds of rock, funk, hip-hop, drum and bass and a little jazz to capture every form of music that was present at Snowball this weekend. As the final fireworks lit the sky, every face in that crowd was smiling with the ultimate love for all the amazing music that had taken place over the weekend.

To all the artists who were at Snowball, thank you for coming to Colorado and making us fall in love with your music all over again. For the day dancing shows to the night thumping after parties. To the Snowball staff, you all did an amazing job and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for next year. And of course, to all the festival goers, keep fuckin rocking.

[Trap] FLOSSTRADAMUS ✖ DJ SLIINK – CROWD CTRL

FLOSSTRADAMUS ✖ DJ SLIINK
CROWD CTRL

☢☢☢ Can you dig it! ☢☢☢ The Hoodie Boyz Flosstradamus hook up with the Jersey Club DJ Sliink for this massive banger. Sampling the cult classic film “The Warriors“, this scene is the famous speech made by Cyrus, leader of New York’s largest gang, the Gramercy Riffs. He unites all of the city’s gangs, including the Warriors, who would have a hard time getting home, to take over the city “One borough at a time”. Floss and Sliink throw down a Trunk popping bassline with some of the hardest trap style scratches imaginable over his iconic words that will have you swinging like a Baseball Fury.

(Spoiler)Fortunately, they didn’t include the end of his speech where Cyrus is assassinated and The Warriors are framed. This one drops on April 2nd as part of the “Nomads” release on Fools Gold Records.
