[Rap] Nickelus F – Number 15 feat. Drake

Nickelus F is a seasoned vet in the rap game. Rapping and writing with Canadian native Drake, it is safe to say that he is one of the most underrated talents in the game right now. With his new single “Number 15”, he reunites with the OVOXO leader on this darker Jake One production. Speaking on making it and remaining focus, this bonus track is a nice cut from the Virginia MC’s new mixtape Vices.

[Hip-Hop] Brother Ali – Mourning In America (Prod. Jake One)

I’ve always thought of Brother Ali as the perfect combination between a preacher and a prize-fighting boxer. It might just be the name that’s established that association in my mind, but his music has definitely affirmed it.  With every new song he releases, he’s on a mission to deliver a message and shed light on a subject in a way many others would be afraid to.  And when he delivers those messages, he makes sure to throw in a few knockout punchlines to send you reeling back a bit and forcing you to rewind the track and play it again just to comprehend what he’s saying.

His newest cut, “Mourning in America,” which makes up half of the title of his new album, is no different.  The song itself revolves around violent atrocities and their prevalence in Western society.  It’s definitely some deep material, and worth a listen if you’re into more conscious hip-hop.  Once you get done listening to Ali’s newest single, make sure to head over to Rhymesayers and pre-order his new album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, out on Sept. 18th.

[Hip-Hop] Rick Ross – 3 Kings ft. Dr. Dre & Jay-Z (Prod. Jake One)

It took me a while to form an opinion on this track. Whenever you see monster collaborations like this, it is only natural to set the bar incredibly high. My initial reaction was that this didn’t quite meet my expectations. After a few listens, though, it has grown on me considerably.

We can’t be too hard on the Doctor’s opening verse considering he has only released a handful of bars in the last decade. On this, he borrows the Boss’s flow and delivers a decent verse. There isn’t much to say about Ross’s contribution, as it was exactly what you would expect. Hov, on the other hand, delivers something special as he anchors the track. While also utilizing the MMG frontman’s fat-rapper style, his lyricism shines all the way through until he goes acapella declaring, “I love this sh*t like my own daughter/spray these [ninjas] baby just like daddy taught ya.” The legendary producer Jake One provides the ideal instrumental and deserves a lot of credit for setting the tone for three hip-hop giants. Rick Ross’s God Forgives, I Don’t hits stores July 31st and will surely be worth a listen.
