[Event Review] Electric Zoo Day 3 + Playlist

In case you weren’t able to make it out to Randall’s Island for this year’s Electric Zoo, TMN’s got you covered. We were lucky to catch some pretty amazing performances from artists like Getter, Lil Dicky, Louis The Child, Valentino Khan, and many more.

The minute we stepped onto the premise, we were bedazzled by the stages. The Cobra Stage in particular had us in a state of awe, with a design almost unimaginable. Of course, our attention was quickly steered away by the lineup we didn’t want to miss. Getting our day’s fill of bass and hip hop from the Buygore stage from acts like GTA, Borgore, and Juicy J, we then made way to the Riverside stage to catch a vivacious set from Andrew Bayer. We closed out the eventful night at the main stage for a spectacular set from The Chainsmokers, where we enjoyed an array of music from some alternative classics to their charting originals.

As this year’s festival was jam-packed with an assortment of fantastic performances, we thought we’d put together a playlist to highlight a few of our favorites!

’Weekend’
’Borgore Ft. G
Eazy – Forbes (Getter Remix)’
’All I Need (One Mo Drank)’
’Molly (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco)’
’Pierce Fulton – Borrowed Lives Feat. NVDES’
’The Chainsmokers – KANYE Ft. Siren’

[TMN Premiere] Ne-Yo ft. Juicy J – She Knows (Kayliox Remix)

Ne-Yo
She Knows (Feat. Juicy J) (Kayliox Remix)

Following the rising popularity of tropical house, bass-house/future-bass is becoming another household sound in the revival of house music. Kayliox, a Canadian electronic duo, is fueling the movement by producing quality future house music. On their latest, a remix of  Ne-Yo and Juicy J‘s “She Knows, Kayliox once again proves they’re one of the frontrunners in a new way of house music.

The tune starts off with a standard 4×4 house beat fused with Ne-Yo’s R&B vocals. While the beat mixes well with the original tune, the drop is not as hard-hitting as we would expect. The grungy synth is both subtle and catchy, and Juicy J’s rap flows well with the overall futuristic style of the track. It shows the diversity and complexity in Kayliox’s music, as they continue to appeal to a larger audience by cleverly remixing Top 40 hits.

Stay tuned and grab a free copy of this dope remix on their Soundcloud page! We are expecting big moves from this talented duo.

[Hip-Hop] BenZel – Four (ft Juicy J & Cashmere Cat)

BenZel Ft. Juicy J & Cashmere Cat
Four

It’s easy to see why Juicy J is still a relevant and prominent artist in the music game. His latest collaboration, “Four,” with hit-makers Cashmere Cat and BenZel finds the Memphis emcee spitting a smooth verse over a dope beat. It is a rarity to hear some new music from Benzel, but it is always welcome and the production duo deliver an addicting track. The unique blend of southern flows over a lounge-esque beat makes for a chill listen that is sure to get heavy rotation on anyone’s playlist. No news on when this single will be available for purchase or if it is tied to another project. So, for now, sit back and enjoy some sonic euphoria.

[Hip-Hop] Wiz Khalifa – 28 Grams (Mixtape)

After a slight delay due to some legal trouble clever marketing he encountered during a stop on his Under The Influence of Music tour in Texas, Trap Wiz has finally been unleashed, and fully manifested himself in this brand new mixtape, 28 Grams. If his new nickname didn’t already give it away, it should be noted that this isn’t your typical Wiz Khalifa project, as the Pittsburgh native’s teamed up with producers like ZaytovenMetro Boomin, 808 Mafia, ID Labs, Sonny Digital and a few others to explore a grittier, trap-inspired sound.

We can’t say the experimentation pays off, as often times throughout the project it comes off as forced and contrived. The tape does have its shining moments however. Collaborations with Juicy J and Ty Dolla $ign are almost guaranteed to stay in rotation all summer, and we also catch a few glimpses of classic Wiz on Ricky P produced numbers like “Pure,” “Samo,” and “Comb Over,” as well as the Thundercat assisted “Something Special.”

Standing at 28 tracks, sorting through an ambitious project of that scale can prove to be a daunting task, so as usual we’ve picked out a few our favorites for you below. If you do feel inclined to download the full mixtape however, you can do so at the link below.

[NEW] DJ Snake & Lil Jon – Turn Down For What (Remix) (Feat. Juicy J, 2 Chainz & French Montana)

DJ Snake & Lil Jon
Turn Down For What (Remix) (Feat. Juicy J, 2 Chainz & French Montana)

You already know the ninjas here at TMN turn down for nothing, but now thanks to DJ Snake, we’ve been properly acquainted with a few more gentlemen for whom turning down is not an option. After revealing plans for a remix earlier this week via Facebook, we’ve finally got our hands on the tasty banger, featuring the ratchet trio of Juicy J, 2 Chainz and French Montana. If you thought you’d finally heard the last of Lil Jon‘s guttural screaming, you sir (or madam) are sadly mistaken, because this song is destined to be on rotation for the remainder of the summer. So why bother fighting it? Just turn up the speakers to full blast, and repeat after us: “TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?!”

[Hip-Hop] Mobb Deep – Legendary (Feat. Bun B & Juicy J)

Mobb Deep
Legendary (feat. Bun B and Juicy J)

We’re less than a week away from a Mobb Deep reunion album, as the “Legendary” rap duo prepare to bring things full circle with the release of The Infamous Mobb Deep. After touring together last year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut project, Juvenile Hell, the pair took to the studio to record their first full studio album in nearly a decade. This one pays tribute to another hip-hop classic, The Infamous, and it’s separated into 2 discs: one full of 17 fresh new tunes, and one that includes 14 unreleased songs from their 1994 recording sessions.

“Legendary” happens to be one of those newer tracks, and features contributions from Bun B and Juicy J, legends in their own right respectively. The single is as triumphant as they come, as the two team up with Prodigy and Havoc to look back in retrospect on their careers and reflect on their successes over some supreme production supplied by Havoc, The Maven Boys, and Boi-1da. It’s a relatively simple track overall, but it comes packed with plenty of advice and lessons learned for the younger generation to follow.

Also be sure to check out Mobb Deep’s recent collaboration with TMN favorite Kaytranada below, which proves that the old heads aren’t afraid to give the young guys a chance to shine too. If you’re feeling both tracks, feel free to head over to iTunes to pre-order The Infamous Mobb Deep before it drops on April 1st.
