Saturday Selection Vol. 10

Saturday Selection

Here we are at volume 10 of Saturday Selection. It feels good. What makes this so enjoyable is the fact that we’re lucky enough to get great music released every week, and we’ve got the artists & producers to thank for that! Whenever, wherever, and however you can, support these talented people. They make our lives better and the least we can do is attempt to reciprocate by showing we enjoy what they create. On that note, let’s explore what we’ve found from the last week!

San Holo – Still Looking

You may have caught this tune in our latest Wednesday Workout segment, but it’s so good that we just had to mention it again! With that being said, San Holo needs no introduction. He’s been on a roll for a while now, especially since his monumental release “We Rise”. He’s taken to bitbird to show off his latest track, and the first taste of the label’s upcoming Gouldian Finch compilation. “Still Looking” is textbook San Holo in the sense that it combines the best of melodic, trap, and bass elements into his festival-ready style. It’s carefree. It’s substantial. It’s innovative. Enjoy this one when you just want to feel good.

KHAI – Alive

Here’s what’s cool about Khai: he’s unapologetic in his ability to detail exactly how he feels in his music and creates something beautiful around that principle. “Alive” is the latest shining example of this and, after his awesome If You EP, we’re just so glad to he’s back at it. There’s an air of optimism amidst the brooding production in this tune, and the balance between the two defines this stellar single as one of Khai’s best releases to date. Play this tune when you’re feeling a little down, but you’re also sort of okay with that.

Jerry Folk – Where I’m Going

Jerry Folk has been on an interesting journey with his music as of late. Each release really has been something entirely different from the last, and this is somewhat the mission statement of loosely structured project, The Kids Tape. With “Where I’m Going”, he actually lends his own vocals to the radiant production that juggles prominent and funky slap bass, smooth keys, and an overall sense of positivity. Enjoy this one with the windows down.

g l u e 7 0 – Conclusions

Sometimes all we need is a little bit of lo-fi in our lives. Some may find it stale, but when it’s done right, it’s pretty phenomenal. g l u e 7 0 is here to provide some of the best of it. “Conclusions” feels like a hazy and slightly distorted dream world driven by a hip-hop influence while scant vocals flutter every which way across the soundscape. You sort of get drawn in without noticing, and before you know it, you’re digging through the entirety of g l u e 7 0’s material. The magnetism of this sort of music is tough to deny. Listen to this one on a late summer night right as the sun is going down.

M!NT – Sleepwalker

M!NT just dropped off his Through Darkness EP and it is NICE. It was difficult to only pick one tune from it to talk about, but “Sleepwalker” stood out after a few listens. It’s part spooky, part chill, and wholly great. Without a doubt, the innate sense of head-bobbing-ness (let’s just pretend that’s a thing) is strong with this one with a smoothly riding beat and big presence that’s tailor-made for a night cruise. Explore the city late night and enjoy the flashing lights with this one.

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo #17

Another week, another massive list of trap bangers to make you twerk. If you are stuck studying for finals like so many of us are, make sure to keep your headphones turnt up loud enough to let the people studying next to you in the library know whats up in the trap. Prepare to go “Buck Wild” with this first track by Brillz. This song hits hard in all the right ways with heavy bass and lazers and a super tribal second drop. Next Yellow Claw will make you throw your “Hands Up” with this remix of Dirtcaps but keep your hands down for his next original banger with Cesqeaux, because “Make It Clap” is for asses only. Another couple guys from Amsterdam, The Partysquad work with Tommie Sunshine on this track “Alright” for his recent Scion A/V EP and it is definitely better than just alright. The homie D!RTY AUD!O gets a lot trancier than we are used to hearing from him, but with a deep rumbling bass throughout, he proves that nothing is going to hold him back on his rise to the top of the Trap game. Huglife continues his path towards reclaiming his position as a Trap master with this remix of a classic Outkast track. ƱZ, LOUDPVCK, and many others round out the list while M!NT and Alex Young chill things out at the end.

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo 13

Another week, another Trap Dojo, filled with the very best Trap music the internet has to offer. Sorry this post isn’t on the usual Tuesday, but it has more than enough banging tunes to make up for it. The first track, a huge remix of the Flux Pavillion and Major Lazer track “Jah No Partial” goes hard, infusing the classic roots reggae vocals over all sorts of wild instrumentals, horns, whistles and drums. The Dojo just wouldn’t quite feel right if there wasn’t a track by Ookay near the top of the list and he certainly doesn’t disappoint this week, I dare you not to lose your mind when the whistles drop into the track after the hardstyle breakdown halfway through the track. I have no idea who Kennedy Jones is other than he posted this first song to his Soundcloud last and it is a track that would be sure to pack a dance floor. It seems that we cant go a single week without throwing in a remix of “Clique,” and this week Bird Peterson does the honors. Butch Clancy, or should I say “BU†CH CLΔNCΨ” takes a break from making killer dubstep to make this hard hitting trap mash-up. This isn’t available for free download, but will be as soon as Clancy gets all the kinks worked out. I have loved every single OG mix that Candyland has released, and this mix of J-Kwon‘s “Tipsy” proves that they are one of the best at updating familiar but tired tracks into hyped up bangers. The next several songs all go hard with huge instrumentals and fire-spitting lyrics. The last few songs are a little bit different, M!NT creates a beautiful Lovetrap sound with hip-hop vocals throughout while Kastle is pure Lovetrap, with amazing layered vocals sure to get your head nodding while your heart’s breaking. Lastly, we have something the likes of which I’m sure you’ve never heard before, as 710 Records boss ṪHE ƦξVЁR∑NƉ BLEEⱣ BLOO₱ traps out the Etta James classic “At Last”. Be sure to listen to all of these songs on the best system or headphones you have to catch all the sub-bass and subtle features which make these songs truly magnificent.

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo: Volume #7

The Trap Dojo is here once again to take over the world, infusing everything we can with 808s and snares. Forget about cowbells, we need more gunshots.

Oh Snap!! hits us first with “Watup Bitch” an absolute club banger that could make any dance floor go crazy, love the 90’s vibe coming off Flygirls vocals. No word on when this one is coming out though. “Flex” by Solice starts off with a dance beat to keep those feet moving but comes out of nowhere (just like Solace did) with a huge haunting bass drop. CRNKN has been on such a massive roll lately and brings us two new tracks this week. Both are simply oozing with gangster swag and filled to the brim with gunshots and heavy beats and hooks. Dupstep pioneer Caspa remixed this Ludacris track way back in 2010. It didn’t get much attention or an official release then, but was just put back up for free on his Soundcloud this week. Up next are a couple sounds by OG Status, definitely a group to keep an eye on. The rest of the list is hit after hit, with ETC!ETC!, Brillz, TrapZillas and Big Chocolate  all going hard. Godmode get dark with their own brand of “Satanic Trap,” and Baauer shows his incredible diversity and ability to produce hype anthems as well as tracks like this remix of Brick + Mortar.

As usual, we’ve been nice enough to do all the work for you and give you all the free tracks RIGHT HERE.
