[Hip-Hop] Joose – Black Sand (Rvdical Remix)

Joose
Black Sand (Rvdical Remix)

Hip-hop is currently going through a fascinating transformation as rappers continue taking risks ranging from the strange vocal inflections of Young Thug, and more recently Makonnen, to the future bass raps of Goldlink. The Soulection collective has had a special role in carving out what label-captain Joe Kay calls the “sound of tomorrow” lending their unique brand of dance music as instrumentals for a broad range of talented emcees. The strength of this movement is multiplied by the artists’ and labels’ openness to collaborate, which in the digital age has become easier than ever and allows for an unprecedented diversity in styles.

The latest remix from Flow-Fi‘s Rvdical the Kid is exemplary of this incredible progression reworking the already dope track, “Black Sand,” from frequent West Michigan AGO collaborators Joose and Sango into an addicting masterpiece. While the original has a minimal and incredibly relaxed vibe to it, Rvdical’s take adds an ethereal element rearranging the vocal sample and adding unique percussion giving Joose’s lyrics a whole new context. Zone out to this awesomely floaty track above.

[Chill Trap] Zack The Lad – Mek Dem (Rvdical The Kid Version)

Zack The Lad
Mek Dem (Rvdical The Kid Version)

Rvdical The Kid provides us with an ethereal trap flip of Zack The Lad‘s “Mek Dem”. I have been seeing a bit of buzz about Zack The Lad lately, and rumors tell that it’s an alias of the dubstep producer Trolley Snatcha. Not sure if Trolley was going for a rebranding, or if he’s been feeling chill stuff lately. Whatever the situation may be, we’re loving it. Rvdical The Kid is a favorite among the Flow-Fi collective, and the stutters on this track remind me a bit of his Flow-Fi fam P A T H. Originally from Cotonou, Benin (West Africa,) and currently located out of Maryland- Rvdical The Kid is an international mad man. I took a moment to chat with him, and asked him what inspires him to remix a song. “When it comes to remixes, what inspires me the most is when I completely understand where the artist was going with the song. So a remix for me is like… ‘why don’t we go this way instead?'” He definitely brought a whole knew light to “Mek Dem”, and I am loving the glitchy stuttered approach!

Sunday Night Soul [Vol. 23]

This is a special day folks, and I’m sure plenty of you already know why. While we won’t explicitly spell it out for you, we hope many of you celebrated the occasion in your own special ways. However, there is one matter of business left to take care of, and that’s making sure you end your night on the right note, with some Sunday Night Soul.

While we expected to have plenty more holiday “anthems” to provide you with tonight, we still believe we have the perfect lineup to zone out to, and help lull you into dreamland. We can’t help but feel a special connection to this week’s crop of tracks, but maybe that’s because a few of these already helped carry us through our day as well.

Sunni Colón was certainly a popular man this week, as his track “Temple” was remixed by three of our favorite producers, staRo, Esta and Hasta. It’s tough to pick a favorite from that group, but right now we’d have to give the crown to Esta. Impressive performances were also turned in from the likes Namuun AriunRachel Foxx, The Internet, Acropolis Sound, Teyana Taylor, Nina Sky, Kidepo, Sophia Black, Echo, Vanessa Elishakutthrowt, kenji, RVDICAL THE KID, MisterMack, Anushka, Tourist and Reva DeVito & Kaytranada. Of course the fun doesn’t stop there, so as an added bonus, we’ve also included the full album stream of Blackbear‘s The Afterglow, to ensure the maximum amount of feels. You already know the drill folks, and if you’re not high for this right now, we’re sure you’ll be feeling something once you reach the end of this one (and we don’t mean the munchies).
