[NEW] Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment – Surf

Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment
Wanna Be Cool

It’s here! After months’ worth of eager anticipation, Surf has finally arrived. Though initially advertised as a follow-up to Chance The Rapper‘s 2013 mixtape, Acid Rap, it was later revealed that Surf would be a new project led by Donnie Trumpet and his band The Social Experiment, with Chance playing more of a supporting role. Leading up to its release today, details were still pretty sparse, so it’s not surprising that the album was released without any fair warning, which seems to be a common trend these days. None of the features are listed on iTunes, but we promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the guests who appear throughout the record.

We’re still in the process of listening ourselves, so we haven’t had a chance to fully evaluate the project, but so far we’d say it’s lived up to the hype. Take a listen to one of the early tracks below, and make sure to head to iTunes to grab yourself a FREE copy.

[Hip-Hop/Soul] Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment – Lady Friend

Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment
Lady Friend

We were expecting a few surprises this Valentine’s Day, but we could not have seen this one coming. In honor of the romantic holiday, Chance The Rapper has released a special dedication to his “Lady Friend.” Backed by live instrumentation from his band The Social Experiment, Chances spends a majority of the tune crooning about a special someone who doesn’t seem to be a girlfriend, but is most certainly a lady and a friend. The jazzy number features additional vocals from two very talented females in Kiara Lanier and Kehlani. “Lady Friend” is an incredibly sweet tune, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. There’s no clue yet as to if this will be featured on Surf, but we appreciate the new material nonetheless. [Hip-Hop] Wale & A-Trak – Festivus EP

Less than a week after announcing his new collaborative EP with A-Trak, Wale‘s new Festivus EP has finally arrived just in time for the holiday (for those of you unfamiliar with Seinfeld lore, I refer you to this.) Despite how you may feel about the quality of his studio albums, there’s no question Wale has always had a firm grasp on the mixtape game. That trend continues here, as Wale’s latest project falls right in line with previous Seinfeld-inspired works like The Mixtape About Nothing and More About Nothing. With a wide array of features including Pusha T, Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment, Ab-Soul, A$AP Ferg and more, serves as a promising appetizer as a the seasoned emcee prepares to release The Album About Nothing sometime in 2015. [Hip-Hop] Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment – Home Studio

Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment
Home Studio ( Back Up In This Bitch)

Chit-town rep and ninja favorite Chance the Rapper just improved our morning with a spontaneous release. “Home Studio,” as its name suggests, is a pretty raw song, but continues Chance’s creative narrative.

Over some fittingly fun and bouncy production, Chance goes in full ad-lib mode boasting about his success in the industry despite the uniqueness of his sound. In a way, the goofy tone ends up complementing the light and triumphant content of the lyrics. Check this one above for a fresh, mid-week energy boost.
