[Hip-Hop/R&B] Tory Lanez – Dem Ones

Tory Lanez
DEM ONES (PROD. SARAH J + TORY LANEZ)

After dropping one of the best mixtapes of the year to start the month, Toronto native Tory Lanez has retuned to the scene, reviving his Fargo Fridays series on Halloween. This is definitely one hell of a treat, as Tory picks up right where he left off on Lost Cause,  flashing his brilliance behind the mic while simultaneously handling production duties as well. “Dem Ones” is as “swavey” a cut as any, and it doesn’t appear like the young talent plans on slowing things down anytime soon. Listen to the track above, and if you haven’t had a chance yet to check out Lost Cause, make sure to do so ASAP.

[Mixtape] Tory Lanez – Lost Cause

After months of waiting and a brief delay, we finally have our hands on Lost Cause, the eagerly anticipated project from Canadian native Tory Lanez. As we’ve alluded to in the past, Tory is a tremendous talent who’s finally ready to make a name for himself and take on the big stage. A true triple threat who excels at rapping, singing and production, the gifted musician takes the opportunity to flaunt his full repertoire of skills on this tape. Too often Tory draws comparisons to fellow Toronto native Drake, because they share a similar moody, lo-fi style, but a closer listen will reveal that the emcee stands in his own lane–no pun intended.

Upon first glance at the tracklist, one of the more admirable aspects of the project is that Tory doesn’t rely on any big name features to lift him up, instead choosing to place the spotlight on himself while leaning on a diverse stable of producers including Noah Breakfast, RL Grime, Ryan HemsworthPlay PicassoChristian Louie, SykSense and more, to help formulate a cohesive sound. Presenting a potent concoction of hip-hop and R&B, the tape features a few of our recent favorites like “I-95” and “Henny In Hand,” along with some fresh standouts like “Gold” and “Selfish // York University.” Stream the full project below, and hit the download link to grab a copy for yourself. We guarantee this one will be in constant rotation for quite awhile.

I-95 (Prod. RL Grime, Tory Lanez, Noah Breakfast x Grave Goods)

With the imminent release of his debut album Lost Cause right around the corner, Tory Lanez has decided to let go of one last single to tease his fans during the short wait. Bringing forth a team effort on this one, the talented Canadian links up with a couple TMN favorites, RL Grime and Noah Breakfast, to help expand his Toronto sound. Aiming for a more introspective vibe with this track, we find Tory shuffling through his thoughts as he cruises down “I-95.” Talented as he is, “I-95” once again allows Tory to flex his gifts as a versatile star, kicking around a few eloquent bars and vaunting his syrupy vocals on the hook. The tune serves as another fascinating glimpse into what Tory has in store for us on Lost Cause, which will finally be out this Monday.

[R&B] Tory Lanez – Henny In Hand (Prod. Noah Breakfast & Matti Free)

Henny In Hand (Prod. Noah Breakfast + Matti Free)

Tory Lanez is a multi-faceted star, and in the last year or so, has quickly become another one of our favorites to hail from the land up north. While many musicians these days attempt to toe the line between hip-hop artist and R&B singer, the Toronto native manages to execute both roles flawlessly. His latest single, “Henny In Hand,” is proof of that, as the Canadian crooner operates in falsetto for most of the sultry number over some silky smooth production from Noah Breakfast & Matti Free. It’s not until the end of the bedroom jam that he hits us with some bars, choosing to close out the track with a quick verse.

“Henny In Hand” is the third single from Tory’s upcoming debut album, Lost Cause, which will be available September 29th. He also has a corresponding tour set to kick off later this month in Austin, Texas. Make sure to check out his website to find out when he’ll be making his way to your city.

[Hip-Hop] G-Eazy – Been On (Remix) (Feat. Rockie Fresh & Tory Lanez)

G-Eazy
Been On (Remix) (Ft. Rockie Fresh & Tory Lanez)

Bay area emcee G-Eazy already has big plans for 2014. With his album, These Things Happen, set to drop later this year, the hip-hop incarnation of James Dean is gearing up to embark on a 40-date tour with some of his contemporaries throughout the U.S. Kicking things off on February 21st in Dallas, accompanying him on his trek throughout the country will be Rockie Fresh, Tory Lanez, Kyle, Devin Miles, Ground Up and Kurt Rockmore. That’s a pretty talented troupe, and now we can expect at least one collaboration between these young performers. “Been On” was already one of G-Eazy’s more impressive singles to date, but it only gets better with the added help of Chicago’s Rockie Fresh and Toronto’s Tory Lanez, who both invoke some crafty bars to bring the track to a whole new level. Make sure to grab a free download of the track above, and head over to G-Eazy’s official website to find out when he’ll be in a town near you.

Up (Fell In Love) (Prod. The Mekanics)

After hitting us up with street-wise singles like “Hate Me On The Low” and “Fourteen & 40’sTory Lanez slows things down with his latest cut, “Up (Fell In Love). Following in the vein of fellow Canadian Drake, Lanez constantly shifts talents between both rapping and singing throughout the entire emotionally charged track. This brand new bedroom anthem might be the best leak from Tory’s new project so far, and we’re definitely looking forward to what else the Toronto representative has in store for us when Conflicts Of My Soul drops on August 8th.
