[Chill] Tycho – Plains (Baio Remix)

Tycho
Plains (Baio Remix)

Tycho‘s 2014 album, Awake, remains our go-to relaxation record with its soothing guitar melodies and otherworldly ambiance. Earlier this week, Tycho let loose a remix of “Plains” from Vampire Weekend bassist, Chris Baio, along with the announcement of an upcoming Awake remix album. While “Plains” is one Tycho’s most ambient tracks, Baio transforms it adding both percussion and vocals. Drawing the listener in immediately with a steel drum, the remix establishes a groove that didn’t exist in the original all the while utilizing the original’s guitar to maintain signature Tycho elements. The subtle vocals perfectly match the backdrop in both lyrics and sonics. Vibe above and look out for the Awake remix album, which drops January 15th and will feature remixes from RJD2, Bibio, Com Truise and more.

[Chill] Spoon – Inside Out (Tycho Remix)

Spoon
Inside Out (Tycho Remix)

Ninja regulars will already know this, but we’re huge fans of Tycho, who really caught their stride this year with the release of Awake. Today, we get an extra special remix from Scott Hansen & co. as they take on “Inside Out” by Spoon, who have had quite the comeback year themselves. Tycho utilize their signature instrumentation to create an incredible groove matching the original’s bounce and complimenting the vocals of Spoon frontman Britt Daniel to perfection. After the first couple minutes, though, the track goes near full instrumental allowing the abstract, subtle melodies to take front and center. We’re not used to hearing vocals on Tycho tracks, but are definitely not mad at how this one turned out. Hit play and get lost in this gorgeous tune above. Also, be sure to check out our interview with Tycho here.

With breathtaking scenery, quality food/wine and the lingering remnants of the hippie movement, Outside Lands 2014 served as yet another reminder of why the area has become, and has for so long been, such a desirable destination even with its famously cold summer weather.

Just over two weeks have passed since we took our final steps out of what was the most popular OSL in the event’s history. In the days following a festival, the mundanity of everyday life can become particularly evident. Luckily, with concerts, there’s always an artist’s music to revive the excitement of your most memorable, albeit sometimes least remembered, moments.
