[Event Review] Electric Zoo Day 3 + Playlist

In case you weren’t able to make it out to Randall’s Island for this year’s Electric Zoo, TMN’s got you covered. We were lucky to catch some pretty amazing performances from artists like Getter, Lil Dicky, Louis The Child, Valentino Khan, and many more.

The minute we stepped onto the premise, we were bedazzled by the stages. The Cobra Stage in particular had us in a state of awe, with a design almost unimaginable. Of course, our attention was quickly steered away by the lineup we didn’t want to miss. Getting our day’s fill of bass and hip hop from the Buygore stage from acts like GTA, Borgore, and Juicy J, we then made way to the Riverside stage to catch a vivacious set from Andrew Bayer. We closed out the eventful night at the main stage for a spectacular set from The Chainsmokers, where we enjoyed an array of music from some alternative classics to their charting originals.

As this year’s festival was jam-packed with an assortment of fantastic performances, we thought we’d put together a playlist to highlight a few of our favorites!

’Weekend’
’Borgore Ft. G
Eazy – Forbes (Getter Remix)’
’All I Need (One Mo Drank)’
’Molly (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco)’
’Pierce Fulton – Borrowed Lives Feat. NVDES’
’The Chainsmokers – KANYE Ft. Siren’

The Trap Dojo #51

If you thought that turning 50 would slow us down with providing your weekly fix of the best trap tunes, you were sorely mistaken. This week, D!RTY AUD!O and the guys to put on your watch list, Tropkillaz come through with one of the booty shakenest tunes of the week with “HAHAHA”. The twerktacular beats keep on coming with Spenda C on an original mid-track flip, along with Meaux Green, DMNDZ and K Theory dropping it down low. Next up, take a little trip across the pond for some of the hardest music coming out of the UK right now. You may not recognize the name I AM LEGION, but if you’ve never heard of Noisia and Foreign Beggars you need to catch up of your bass music fam. This track from the new side project is Noisia’s first foray into trap, and they are able to hang onto their signature heavy sound and with the Beggars’ sharp lyrics, this is one not to be missed. Not satisfied with only one beggars track, I just had to include this hard trapstyle remix from the one and only ETC!ETC!Tigerblood rounds out our journey to England with some dark spacey beats from their new Celestial EPLuminox brings us back with some of his killer style of trap, and a couple of my favorite gLAdiator tracks get the VIP treatment. Next up, Psychic Type does what he does best turning the 8-bit soundtrack to everyone’s favorite Gameboy game into hard hitting nostalgia-inducing trap beats. Valentino Khan, Louisiana Jones, OG Status, Watapachi and a few others keep showing us how the trap is properly run to round out the list. Huglife, with his smooth style of lovetrap remixes also just couldn’t be left out, and his remix of Lana Del Ray‘s “Young and Beautiful” close it out.

The Trap Dojo #39

We’re kicking off this week with the first track of the new Animal LP from Bro Safari and UFO!. This whole album is filled with killer tracks from all sides of bass music from Trap to Moombah and Dubstep to DnB, and the best part is that its free. Download the whole album here.  Next up, there are a couple tracks from another hot release this week, the Spotlight 1 compilation, which is full of the best EDM around in all styles, with Smookie Illson and K-Theory bringing that trapstyle to the party. When it comes to CRNKN we know him as one of the hottest names in the trap world, with massive track after huge collaboration, and while this time he brings us something completely different, the scale is just as big as his trap songs. CRNKN takes the Must Die! trap original and turns it into a beautiful house beat for a little 4 on the floor for your day.  I promised myself that i wouldnt fill the list with Daft Punk remixes, but there were a couple that you really have to hear, and both of them are of “Doin It Right,” one of my favorite songs on Random Access Memories. First off Vinnie Maniscalco chops and screws the vocals in just the right way while putting a juke/footwork twist on the already high tempo track. I’m saving the other remix for last. Leave it to Valentino Khan to think that it isn’t enough to release a killer new moombah track, but to trap it out himself too. Willy Joy is back too, reminding you of rapper Mike Jones‘s personal phone number, just in case you want to drop him a line. TWRK may be fairly new to the scene, but are absolutely bringing the beats to make her twerk. This collab with Canadian 4KORNERS is easily one of the dirtiest songs I’ve ever heard. “The Whip”  by Foxsky gets a “PLUR Trap” remix from ETC!ETC! on this EP from the Mad Decent/Jeffrees label, along with some amazing remixes by The Reef, Udachi and Vass. Get all of them here for free. Up next, from across the pond,  an ode to that pair of “Dirty Vans” that hold so many memories by The Ninetys. Party Favor has always brought the ruckus, and this new release on Ministry of Sound definitely goes all in. This is a public service announcement from ︻╦╤─ ƱZ ─╤╦︻ reminding you to always КЄЄⱣ Ị₮ ₮ЯỊⱢⱢ. The last few tracks definitely keep it trill with Kaytradana and Kastle who always create some of the most beautiful and evocative soundscapes in Trap music. Finally, Ray Complex slows down “Doin It Right” and makes it the perfect nighttime drive song.

’Bro Safari & UFO! – Drama’
’Sporty O – Guestlist (Smookie Illson Remix) *OUT NOW*’

’Foxsky – The Whip (ETC!ETC! Remix)’

’Uberjak’d – Bump Dat (Party Favor Remix) **May 31st on Hussle/Ministry Of Sound’
’ƱZ – ŤɌ∆Ҏ ᶊῌῗ† √16  ︻╦╤─ ₣ЯЄЄ ƉØШИⱢØ∆Ɖ ─╤╦︻’
’Knife Party – LRAD (BMBX CRTL “WTF Is Festival Trap” Remix)’

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo #25

Kicking off the 25th edition of The Trap Dojo, we have a huge remix of Rihanna’s “Jump” from Club Cheval, the same group that was behind the Nero – “Won’t You Be There” remix. This version keeps Rihanna’s chorus, a cover of “Pony” by Ginuwine but fills in the blanks with some hot verses from Theophilus London and some hot trap beats. Next up is D!RTY AUD!O‘s track from the recent Trap-a-Holics Certified Trap 2 Mixtape filled with frantic synth work and aggressive verses. After remixing “Milkshake” by Kelis, GoldTop shows that they have a flair for remixing silly female tracks into full on trap bangers, this time hitting “Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama. Hard hitting basslines, horns and sharp drumwork keep the track fresh and is sure to be a dancefloor smasher. Bird Peterson is back with another of his Drankenstein remixes, this time taking on the spacey, prog-house track “Cosmos” and keeps many of the great proggy elements, while still completely transforming it into a definitively Drankenstein track. The next track, from newcomer $1 Bin is full of horns that are on an epic scale, building up the aura before dropping it into a grimy dirty bassline with all the snares you could ask for. This is super tight production, and i’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this guy in the future. The rest of the list has plenty of favorites like O.G. Status, Huglife and Knuckle Children all with fresh tracks for you, so make sure to check them out and enjoy them. CNTRL starts off the Cool Down, fusing his hip-hop sampling with trill bells and a deep bassline. Hucci makes use of his sample from The Temptations “Here I Come” in his trill banger, while Alter Natives close out the list this week with the emotional “Sierra’s Theme”. Clearly inspired by tracks like “Lana’s Theme” from Flosstradamusthey turn the original Freshly Ground song, “I’d Like” into a heavy, emotionally charged trap anthem, whose quality is right up there with “Lana’s Theme”

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo #23

I apologize for the delay with this weeks dojo, but we’re coming at you with so many huge hits this week that i’m sure it will make up for it. Jumping right into it, Team Bayside High takes on the task of remixing a truly classic dance hit, “Make You Sweat” better known as “Everybody Dance Now”. They do all the right things to this remix, with several different trap builds and drops, emphasizing the famous lyrics or their own take on the melody. Next up is the masked man himself, UZ, remixing Birdy Nam Nam. You may have seen this posted earlier this week as part of the Birdy Nam Nam Remix EP. This track is incredibly funky with great drumwork throughout. Butch Clancy continues his Trap Tuesday series with this weeks “Dopeboy”, my favorite trap track of his so far. With huge bass and bells, this is real gangster trap shit to rattle the trunk as you’re driving through the hood. Heroes X Villains, a name who we see far too little of teases us with the full preview of their remix of “Jah No Partial”. Even though they don’t release as frequently as others, every track is fire, and this track proves they are worth the wait. A couple weeks ago, I told you to keep an eye on Snails in 2013, and so far he has lived up to that hype, releasing this massive heavy hitter, as well as a killer dubstep track this week alone. Trap Dojo regular Ookay is back, having just signed to Borgore’s label. “Hey Freak is filled with blazing high synths and some serious footwork set to make you kick up a storm. RaceCarBed just released a new EP this week filled with deep basslines, and oozing with purped out swag. Click the “Buy” link to get the whole EP. Grandtheft, who you probably recognize from his insane collaboration with Diplo kills this remix of “Tuna Melt” that will have you saying “Damn son, where’d you find this sandwich?”. While Dubstep is still not an old genre by any means, there are still a number of tracks that you can consider classics, one of which is “Sweet Shop” by Doctor P. While its always tough to remix a classic, Big Makk keeps it fairly simple, adding some drums to the notoriously high pitched drop, while chopping up the synths only enough to really trap it out, before going really hard in the second half.

A few tracks later, which are all great, but I wont mention because this post is already getting out of hand, comes the cool down section of our dojo training. I never thought I would be putting Justin Beiber on the dojo, but the way this is chopped and screwed into a Future Trill ballad had me playing this one on repeat. Lastly, Huglife seems to have created a subgenre of his own: Indie-Trap. This track shows what i really love about Huglife, whether he’s producing big-room bangers, or remixing indie coffee shop tracks into some chill love trap, its always above par.
