[NEW] Empire of the Sun – Alive (Zedd Remix) [Preview]

Empire Of The Sun
Alive (Zedd Remix)

Australian duo Empire of the Sun astounded us with their comeback single, “Alive,” when it dropped last month. Now, they’ve commissioned TMN favorite, Zedd, for a brand new remix. It has all the typical ingredients of a guaranteed Zedd banger: a buzzing build up, a cascading bridge, and finally a boisterous, captivating drop. Although it’s just a preview, this might be the best two and a half minutes of music you hear all day. Make sure to look out for the full version when it drops on May 21st. Also, don’t forget to purchase Empire of the Sun’s sophomore effort, Ice on the Dune, when it hits our shores on June 18th.

Zedd ft. Foxes – Clarity (Remixes) [Released Today]

With every passing year, German producer Zedd increases his exposure tenfold, having gifted the world ubiquitous hits like “Shave it”, “Spectrum” and of course the much cared for single ‘Clarity’ featuring the longing vocals of Foxes. Today Feb 12th, with the help of Tiësto, Style Of Eye, Brillz and a Union offering their own talent to the mix, Zedd is releasing the Clarity Remixes EP containing four tracks, all of which bring a unique rendition to the massive single.

Both Tiesto and Style of Eye elevate ‘Clarity’ to a festival-ready big room level, exposing the contrast between strong electro house basslines with delicate serenading vocals. Union, however, converts the original progressive track into a light ballad following it with soft strings over a layer of emotional piano notes (ahh the feels). And if neither of these are bouncy enough for you, Brillz brings in trap-proof rendition.

Preview them below, purchase them on iTunes.

Zedd – Clarity feat. Foxes (Acoustic Version)

You already know where The Music Ninja stands when it comes to Zedd. We’ve featured the Russian-German producer a number of times before, including the epic original version of this track “Clarity” featuring Foxes. But what happens when all the electronic flare is stripped away, what are you left with? Surprisingly, an absolutely charming piano ballad. Foxes’ vocals are especially impressively sweet, and become the main highlight of this EDM-turned-acoustic track. Check it out above! The original’s below for comparison.

Zedd ft Foxes – Clarity (Aylen Remix)

Updating a Zedd original is not an easy feat but when it comes to New Jersey producer Aylen, nothing is impossible. The incredible voice Foxes lends herself for this track is sure to induce more than just goosebumps as her sensible vocals glide through this progressive single from Zedd. And yet, Aylen is able to expose the beautiful harmonies of the original track while still lifting “Clarity” to welcomed, and much aggressive, heights. The rise of reconstructing songs and turning them into the next juggernaut dubstep/trap banger is far too common nowadays and it is producers like Aylen that are inherently capable of striking the perfect balance between fluid melodies combined with the harsher elements of electro house. DID I MENTION THIS SONG IS FREE? Grab it right now and don’t forget to check out Aylen soundcloud for more.

Zedd – Clarity (Album Review)

Zedd‘s newest album Clarity is definitely one of the greatest albums of its kind this year. Track after track proves to have a phenomenal quality. Each hold its own weight and doesn’t sound as though it was just thrown into the tracklisting as filler, which isn’t something you often see in electronic albums. Usually there are three or four solid hits, while the rest feels like generic electro. However, Clarity is in no way like this.

If you want to invest in an electronic album that will cover a lot of ground genre-wise and will light up a dance floor, this is definitely it, hands down. The spectrum of electronic music genres on it is pretty large, with many of the songs representing the different genres very well. From heavy electro house tracks like “Codec” and “Stache” to lighter progressive pieces such as “Lost At Sea” and “Follow You Down,” and everything in between, Zedd knows when and how to use vocals and chords perfectly. My favorites are “Spectrum” and “Fall Into The Sky” featuring Ellie Goulding (how can you go wrong with that?).

Clarity flows so well that it can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what genre of electronic music they like or even if they don’t care for it at all. Zedd has showed a tremendous amount of skill with this debut and he’s only going to get better. You can stream some samples below and pick up the album on iTunes here. It will be available on Beatport on October 9th.

[Live Review] Bassnectar – KOKO, London

After a solid Pendulum DJ set, and with the venue at capacity, Lorin ‘no bullshit’ Ashton AKA Bassnectar took to the stage. I have no idea how he can see what he’s doing under all that hair, but seriously, this guy means business.

“London you’re a fucking mad house out there!”

And with that – Bassnectar began his relentless sub driven set in KOKO Camden over the weekend. Mixing between mixing dubstep, reggae, drum step, DnB and anything else he could get his hands on – Lorin’s performance that night showed why the guy packs out arenas across the world with the promise of the heaviest sounds on the planet.

You can be sure of two more things at a Bassnectar show; serious amounts of sub bass and whiplash – tonight was no exception. Lorin delivered drop after drop of of his unrelenting dub/step hits and the crowd responded every single time. Stand out moment of the night was undoubtedly Vava Voom, with everyone singing along to Lupe Fiasco’s pitched down vocals (I’m sure we all looked like bloody idiots).

His last appearance in the UK was way back in 2010 and probably consisted of a “classic” dubstep crowd. Eg. mostly guys wearing vests or minimal clothing so their sweat can pass easily from their armpit to your face. The crowd this time was a bit more mixed, but I probably absorbed a good amount of other peoples sweat – a process of osmosis if you like.

I can’t recommend Bassnectar’s live show enough and if you’re in the USA you should definitely make every effort to get to his headlining tour this fall.

One of the other DJ’s that night was one of TMN’s favourites – Zedd who kicked off with his trademark bits and pieces mashups including snippets of everything from Mario to Marley. His biggest drops were, unsurprisingly, some of his own sending the KOKO kids crazy. I’ve never heard Skrillex/The Doors ‘I’m breakin’ a sweat’ sung so loud! What was really impressive was his quick changed of tracks, i swear he must have played close to a 100 different tracks… awesome.

For more Bassnectar treats, get onto his European Vacation mix or even better – buy his latest album Vava Voom which gets a glorious Music Ninja thumbs up.

Special thanks Playground for putting on the event

[Electro House] Nicky Romero & Zedd – Human (Rawrberry Remix)

There are so many unknown producers in EDM and while many are not that good, there are some that are rare jewels that should be very well known. One of those jewels is Rawrberry who is bringing this glitchy and funky feel to Nicky Romero & Zedd‘s song, “Human”. We don’t know that much about Rawrberry except that he lives somewhere in the world and his music is fantastic. Other than those two facts, he is a mystery to us. His sound consists of reclined breakdowns followed by colossal growls and jagged synths. He is a producer too look out for in the future!

Give Rawrberry some love on his Facebook and Twitter or find more bangers on his Soundcloud.
