[Electronic] Vanic X Zella Day – Hypnotic

Vanic X Zella Day
Hypnotic

One thing we love here at TMN is coming across those artists who are absolutely consistent with their quality of music. It’s difficult for artists, especially in EDM, to find their own sound–a sound that sells to a diverse audience–and stick with it while not letting that sound get lost in the over-saturated music of today.

Vanic is an artist who still has yet to release a product that hasn’t surprised or stunned his listeners. We’ve been a fan of his music for quite some time now, and though his sound has developed a bit in that period, it still has Vanic written all over it.

For his most recent release, Vanic brilliantly remixes Zella Day‘s “Hypnotic,” turning it into something of an electronic masterpiece. Vanic spices up the the original (which is already composed of an underlying dark harmony that presents you with a feeling of mystery) in a way that is so hot, your sound system may or may not catch on fire. He transforms the song into pure sex (try to think Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show finale) that will leave you begging for more.

[New Release] Zella Day – 7″

The beautiful and talented Zella Day released her album 7″ on Monday, made up of her two stunning songs “1965” and “Sweet Ophelia.” That same day, Zella released the video for “Sweet Ophelia.” We were lucky enough to chat with the Arizona native about her inspirations, her new release, and the enchanting new video.

TMN: Zella, we all would just like to say how much we love your music and your sound. Can you talk to us about how living in the West inspired and continues to inspire your music?

ZD: I grew up in such an ethereal place. I was raised breathing in the fresh mountain air that in some ways I incorporate into my music. There was a lot of open space and a lot of natural beauty that allowed me to express myself freely. There wasn’t much of a music scene in Pinetop so I was kind of left to my own devices; the songs I began writing were original and unaffected.

TMN: And obviously congrats on your debut 7″ release, always super exciting! Tell us what you are most excited about with this big release.

ZD: Thankzzzzzz :-). I’m excited that so many people are hearing my music. That’s the whole point. I’ve been making music for what feels like a long time and its invigorating that people get to experience it for themselves. These first releases get me one step closer to playing in front of more and more people which is what I live for.

TMN: On top of that, you also released the video for ‘Sweet Ophelia’ today, again, congratulations! This song is already such a powerhouse, how did you decide where to take the feel and flow of the music video?

ZD: I wanted the video to be simple yet trancelike, I wanted it to look like what the song sounds like. There are a couple scenes in the video that are symbolic and speak truth as to what the song is about; the video is purposeful. I was nervous that the whole 3 minutes was based on my performance because I haven’t really performed like that in front of a camera before. My take on the whole thing was unrehearsed and authentic, so what you are seeing in the video is pure emotion. Theres a vulnerability portrayed in my disposition that I believe the song possesses as well.

[Indie/Pop/Folk] Zella Day – 1965

Zella Day
1965

Arizona native artist Zella Day released ‘1965’ yesterday, the B-side of her forthcoming debut 7” to be released April 7th.

It is safe to say, this indie pop artist with a twist of influences from her Western life is quickly becoming one of my favorite new artists. Her almost electronic melodies mixed with her intense and captivating vocals is a collaboration like none other. Then put in the story her lyrics tell in a matter-of-fact manner and magic happens. Her ‘1965’ is a beautiful tale of love and of a world that two people once had with one another, as Day puts it, “…cut like diamonds we were made to last”. And last Day will, she has taken inspiration from artists such as Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan to find a voice and sound all of her own, assembled with her Western upbringing, Day will entice all who listen.

[Sweet] Zella Day – Sweet Ophelia

Sweet Ophelia

You know those beautiful stories of artists? I’m talking about ones where the artist has had music embodied in them since they were young?

Well, Arizona artist Zella Day is one of those musicians. Growing up in small Pinetop Arizona, this artist was inspired by a vast backdrop of natural beauty. Her family owned a small coffee shop where Zella was surrounded by other musicians and where she first began her musical endeavors performing sets of Elvis and Bob Dylan with just her guitar accompanying her. From there, Zella began writing songs, which we are all so thankful. Today, Zella released her song ‘Sweet Ophelia’, the A-side off her forthcoming debut 7” slated for release this coming spring. Zella has a rugged sound, with a twist of sweet sophistication in her voice. Her lyrics are rugged and truthful while being perfectly matched with instruments. Enjoy this beauty and much more to come.
