This episode marks the return of our Drive Time Mix series featuring two hours of house / techno music mixed live. I played some recent favs for the first hour and the multi-talented Jeremy Black took over for the second. Jeremy’s selection was a mix of forward-thinking club tracks inspired by his semi-recent move to Berlin from SF and some of his own original unreleased cuts. If you dig his mix as much as I did, make sure to check out his work as part experimental electronic outfit Awefekt and look out for his solo album which is set to drop at the end of the year. If you’re not familiar with his fantastic former band Apollo Sunshine, give them a spin as well!

It was only fitting that the 150th episode of TMN Radio was one of the most eclectic yet — a true testament to how the show has pushed my music explorations forward. This episode features music from Nigeria, Mali, Turkey, Niger, France, The Congo, Ghana, England, Sweden and more making it the most internationally focused episode to date. Highlights include the beautiful Tuareg guitar of Tinariwen, psychedelic renditions of Turkish folk songs from Altın Gün, a summer essential from Ghana-natives Onipa and a medley of tracks in honor of French engineer/producer/artist Philippe Zdar who tragically passed last week. The last few weeks have seen way too much new music for just one show but this episode highlights some of the higher profile ones. Mac DeMarco, Flying Lotus, Denzel Curry and Tyler the Creator all dropped impressive new albums. Each of the four saw artists taking risks and evolving in the process. A mix of indie, R&B, a wide range of hip-hop styles and experimental beats complemented those sounds for the remainder of the 2 hours.

I opened things up with two segments highlighting new / upcoming indie releases from The Mattson 2, Drugdealer and Slow Pulp among others. Vicky brought an eclectic mix with a common thread of 90s nostalgia — from Westerman‘s understated, Phil Collins-esque vocals to classic acid house of Armando and Moby. – Ash

With a ton of new music out on Friday, this show gives you a little bit of everything. The first two segments feature some pop and electronica with heavy jazz undertones including Flying Lotus’ psychedelic return, a cut off Matt Martians slacker breakup album and Phonte’s silky smooth Kaytranada collab. Rico Nasty and Kenny Beats latest album anchor the 10-track hip-hop segment alongside standout cuts from new ScHoolboy Q, Pivot Gang and SOB X RBE projects. Finally, we close things out with some thumping house grooves highlighting Bella Boo’s fantastic new EP and Moon Boots first new music in over a year.
