[Indie] Introducing Freedom Fry

Freedom Fry are one of new music’s best-kept secrets. The duo, comprised of Parisian Marie Seyrat and New Yorker Bruce Driscoll, have been making waves on the blogosphere since they dropped ‘Earthquake’ on Valentine’s Day 2012, and their latest single “Summer In The City” looks set to take them even higher. “Summer In The City” shows off the band’s knack for creating simple pop songs with a sultry ambiance, mainly thanks to Seyrat’s cute French-accented vocals. Their enchanting cover of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot’s “Bonnie & Clyde” proves that Freedom Fry have the talent to make it big. An album is rumoured to be in the pipeline, so stay tuned for more from this wonderful pair.

[Indie] Peace – California Daze

California daze peace

Birmingham band Peace debuted new single “California Daze” at Latitude, one of the UK’s quieter festivals, and it’s easy to see how the track fits with that end-of-a-festival mood – like the last song at your prom, you need something you can listen to with a sense of nostalgia for what has been. And Peace deliver just that in the shape of this sugary indie-rock anthem, with jangling guitars and Sixties-style vocal harmonies creating that perfect atmosphere. “California Daze” is guaranteed to be in all the indie clubs at closing time, so we suggest you get there, find the hottest person in the room, and slow dance until the end.

Peace’s Delicious EP drops on September 9 through Columbia Records.

If you’ve been missing a feel-good song recently, then this latest effort by Wavves will put a ridiculous grin on your face and some rhythm in your feet.

Sigur Rós – Varðeldur from Sigur Rós Valtari Mystery Films on Vimeo.

Icelandic experimentalists Sigur Rós are now fully immersed in their latest work, the Mystery Film Experiment, which has seen the band create visual accompaniments to tracks from their most recent album, Valtari. New video “Varðeldur” is a slow, meditative piece, with a haunting melody, and the film complements it perfectly. Featuring a redheaded woman in a single, bare room, she performs strange slow-motion movements as “Varðeldur” progresses, creating a bewildering yet beautiful scene to lose yourself in.
