[Rock] Dum Dum Girls – Lord Knows

American garage-rockers Dum Dum Girls are back with a new EP, less than a year after the release of their sophomore record Only In Dreams. The first track to drop from this EP is “Lord Knows,” a lovelorn masterpiece with a soaring chorus to die for. Singer Dee Dee is shaping up into a seriously talented songwriter, and her devastatingly simple hooks reveal layers of emotion — the line ‘Oh boy, I can’t hurt you anymore, Lord knows I hurt my love’ is almost overwhelming in its intensity. An instant classic to be treasured, “Lord Knows” is featured on the EP End Of Daze, out on September 25 via Sub Pop Records.

[Chill] Dream Koala – We Can’t Be Friends

Parisian beatmaker Dream Koala describes himself as an “18 years old dreamer,” so it’s no surprise to hear that he creates soft and gentle electro. What is surprising is the sheer amount of emotion Dream Koala can put in a song without any words. “We Can’t Be Friends” is a down-tempo slice of chill which emits pure raw emotion through every desolate guitar bend and echoing synth syncopation. It may only be August, but “We Can’t Be Friends” is definitely a contender for ‘Track of The Year’. This track will not be featured on any of Dream Koala’s upcoming projects, but you can download at his Bandcamp.

British rising star Matthew P is back with a video for “Long Straight Lines,” the title track from his recently released debut album. “Long Straight Lines” is an upbeat folky track with a summery vibe, which the video complements to perfection. Fantastically catchy lyrics and a pop hook to die for show off Matthew’s songwriting talents – he’s worked alongside indie-rockers Snow Patrol and Athlete in his time – so it’s almost guaranteed that ‘Long Straight Lines’ will be a deserved hit for the Suffolk singer. [HOT] Bloc Party – Day Four

bloc party day four

After dropping ‘Octopus’ a little while ago, Bloc Party are back with another single from their forthcoming record ‘Four’. ‘Day Four’ is the semi-titular track from the album, and its soft electronic sound fits with some of the band’s earlier work, perhaps also calling to mind some 80s synth-pop influences. Kele Okereke’s gentle yet powerful vocals are on fine form here, especially on the soaring choruses. We don’t know quite what ‘Four’ sounds like, but on the basis of ‘Octopus’ and ‘Day Four’, we reckon it’s going to be a massive success for Bloc Party. Don’t miss ‘Four’, out on August 20.

[Post-Punk] Snowden – The Beat Comes

Snowden the beat comes

Texan Jordan Jeffares and his band Snowden are back after a long break with a new single, ‘The Beat Comes’. Lifted from their forthcoming record, ‘No One In Control’, it’s a slightly shoegaze-influenced slice of post-punk which allows Jeffares’ distinctive vocals to shine through the layers of feedback. Judging by ‘The Beat Comes’ alone, Snowden have made a welcome return to the scene. ‘No One In Control’ is out in the fall on Serpents & Snakes.

[Video] Hot Chip – How Do You Do

We were ecstatic when Brit boys Hot Chip dropped their latest record ‘In Our Heads’ a little while ago, so we are delighted to present the video for the band’s new single. ‘How Do You Do’ is a perfect example of the type of nerdy pop that Hot Chip do so perfectly, and this Rollo Jackson-directed video is a brilliant accompaniment. Don’t miss the 12″ release of ‘How Do You Do’, out on September 10 with some exclusive remixes.
