[Hip-Hop] Big K.R.I.T. – Cadillactica

Big K.R.I.T.
Cadillactica

Memphis-emcee Big K.R.I.T. takes listeners to the stars and beyond in a old school ride with his new single “Cadillactica”. The single comes fresh off the release of K.R.I.T.’s See Me On Top Vol. 4 release and is yet another chill listen. Mixing a tough, southern-flow with a catchy hook over DJ Dahi-production, this latest release should definitely be in heavy rotation for K.R.I.T. fans.

This tune finds K.R.I.T. jumping on the track with some quick-tongued bars reminiscent of old-school hip-hop. Definitely one that is meant for low-riding or chilling, this single is not necessarily K.R.I.T.’s best but it is certainly worth a listen for what it is. The young rapper even shows off some of his comedic skill on a short-skit towards the tail-end of the song. This is the third release from the upcoming project of the same name and is available for free when fans pre-order the album on iTunes, now.

Feel It (Prod. IAMNOBODI)

London-based emcee Jay Prince dropped some new material yesterday and asks simply that listeners “Feel It”. The laid-back tune is a pretty straightforward and easy listen, but not one you want to sleep on. Some pairings of producers and rappers don’t always turn out well, but the mesh of Soulection‘s IAMNOBODI and Prince is as easy as the tone of the single. Prince’s smooth flow and relaxed lyrics blend well with the soulful and fresh production. The 21 year-old emcee only hopes that listeners kick back and enjoy the good vibes, while listening to a dope uplifting tune. With the winding down of Summer and the Fall pretty much here, this track definitely channels the feel of the season change well. This is the second single from the duos upcoming EP BeFor Our Time, dropping soon.

[Hip-Hop] Joey Bada$$ – Get Paid

Joey Bada$$
Get Paid

NYC emcee Joey Bada$$ is back with a new tune that is a dose of that throwback rap. The single “Get Paid” is a dope, head-nodding track that gives off a 90’s basement rap feel with knocking bass and cool lyrics that don’t sell him out as an emcee. The young rap star puts his Pro Era team on as he gives listeners a sense of what drives him–money, the mythical root of all evil and driving force of capitalism. As soon as the boom-bap production of DJ Relly Rell hits, Joey is poised on the track and commands the mic with an aggressive flow.

This is the second single off Joey’s upcoming debut album, B4DA$$. Although no drop date has been confirmed yet for the project, fans can whet their appetites knowing that production from Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, and Hit-Boy will be featured on the LP. Take a listen to the fresh single now and be sure to catch him on his latest tour.

[New] Kendrick Lamar – i

Kendrick Lamar

After two long years, the wait is finally over for some new Kendrick Lamar to hit your eardrums. Remaining relatively quiet in the music scene, the west coast emcee seemed to have taken a backseat to let his Top Dawg brethren quietly take over the music scene. Schoolboy Q saw his debut, Oxymoron, receive top praises, Isaiah Rashad has made a name for himself with his EP Cilvia Demo, and SZA delivered some chill vibes with her solo project Z. Now that the music scene is more familiar with the crew, Lamar steps back into the spotlight with a long-awaited single for our listening enjoyments.

The track “i” is an uplifting anthem that is sonically a little something different from the rap star. Introduced by a boasting soundbite, a Rahki-produced guitar heavy Isley Brothers “That Lady” sample drops flipping the beat. K-dot quickly jumps on the track spitting some quick-tongued bars about self-love and acceptance. The momentum and positive message do not let up throughout ending with a smooth transition into a jazz, 70’s classic rhythm and vibe. The track definitely invokes the feel of some old-school, but takes a couple listens to fully grow on you.

Kendrick’s follow-up to good kid, M.A.A.D. city is set to drop later this year and is rumored to feature production from Dr. Dre and a lot of in-house production from the TDE camp. This much-anticipated single is now available for purchase on iTunes.

FINALS 2 (Feat. Wale, Gunplay, Rockie Fresh, Fat Trel, Tracy T & French Montana)

Even though Miami couldn’t stand the heat during the first game of the NBA Finals, MMG’s bawse Rick Ross still shows his support for his home team on the new track “Finals 2.” The D. Rich turnt-up single finds Ross bringing together an all-star line-up of emcees to show off their support and lyrical skills on the mic as a sequel to the 2011 single, “Finals” featuring Meek Mill. Bringing together Wale, Gunplay, Fat Trel, Rockie Fresh, Tracy T and French Montana, this track finds each artist lacing the knocking, street beat with their own personal style of delivery. Although some rappers stand out more than others, each offers their own unique dose of fandom and braggadocios rhymes.
