After a themed episode and a week off, i had way too much music for this episode. I decided to focus on a couple artists I’ve seen live recently, several quality new hip-hop releases and some pretty electronic beats. My favs from this episode include revisiting a classic Talib Kweli cut, a groovy new single from Still Woozy, Black Milk’s smooth bars, Ross From Friends‘ stellar Brainfeeder debut and Four Tet‘s gorgeous Bicep remix. – Ash

[Hip-Hop] DOGSSS – DOGSSS 1: SIDE B

DOGSSS has come through with some hip-hop heat in the form of DOGSSS 1: SIDE B. This four track EP features four distinct acts and comes to us from the Detroit Lines imprint. Not only do we have the EP, but a music video has come with the project for the song “On My Feet” featuring Squadda B. The EP flows nicely between differing sounds to give the listener an experience that doesn’t stale. It’s not a full LP, but with what DOGSSS has going with this project, don’t be surprised if there’s a more extensive project on the horizon. To supplement the solid EP, the music video adds another edgy dimension to this engaging release.

’Too Deep Ft Killavesi – DOGSSS’
’On My Feet Ft Squadda B – DOGSSS’
’Alone Ft Pradamane – DOGSSS’
’Reaper Chips Ft Tripp Jones – DOGSSS’

[Music Video] Rob $tone – Lemon Grove feat. Malik Burgers

There’s one person who has been super busy as of late and that’s rapper Rob $tone. After a slew of video releases, including one for his single “Lemon Grove” with Malik Burgers, Rob has ventured on his $tone Cold Tour with dates across the west coast.

The song pays homage to Rob’s birthplace and shares a uniquely California rap style that many across the world have come to know and love, however as always Rob puts his own spin on things. In the video we get images taken from Lemon Grove alongside the song being performed by its emcees. If you haven’t checked out all of Rob’s latest, we highly recommend you do. Lastly, if you’re out on the west side, make sure to grab tickets to his shows via his website.

[Music Video] Santino Corleon – No Baby Momma

Every American’s guilty pleasure, the Maury Show – or Jerry Springer if you’re feeling extra rowdy – has just inspired a dope music video from Santino Corleon. His track “No Baby Momma” off his Therapy LP received a rambunctious music video treatment that we can’t get enough of her ein the dojo.

The actual “No Baby Momma” song is a hip-hop treasure, blending in comically playful elements to an otherwise hard-hitting heater. With the music video we get a taste of the Maury show alongside other imagery centered upon Santino. This is one of our favorite music videos of recent memory – it’s accessible, engaging and a whole lot of fun to watch. Having the song be incredible also helps the project. Enjoy this one and make sure to check out Santino’s full LP on iTunes.

[Hip-Hop] Sean Turk – Good Good

Sean Turk
Good Good (Prod. Sean Turk)

If you’ve been following us for a while, Sean Turk is a name that should be familiar to you. His signature style of bedroom bass has satisfied our ears for quite some time, but now he’s stepped away from it to deliver a hip-hop gem. His single “Good Good” has been released by Hiiigher Records.

“Good Good” is Sean Turk through and through; written, performed and produced by the New York creative. This is the second example of Sean making hip-hop, both of which have been successes, so don’t be surprised if he continues this trend and takes over the urban world with his music. His crossover potential is huge, just have a listen to this and his older records to get an idea. Most importantly, grab “Good Good” on digital platforms or add it to your Spotify playlists.

The Vancouver duo Manila Grey dropped their latest song “Friends of Friends” last week. Produced by azel north, this hip-hop heater is two and a half minutes of flames. They dip into the R&B style with the performance, blending the line between rapping and singing, a trend that’s been going strong for quite some time. “Friends of Friends” is a dope tune to throw on at any time, whether you’re looking for something to move along to during your work day or at a party. Share it around with your friends in the hopes they share it around – after all it is called “Friends of Friends.”
