FWLR & JELO – Birth Of The Anti Hero [TMN Premiere]

Let’s jump right into a heavy premiere from the collaborators FWLR and JELO. Their song “Birth Of The Anti Hero” is taking over the dojo alongside its remix counterpart in this premiere. Released on Bishop Bloc Records, this one two punch of bass is only for those who like to get a bit rough.

The grinding bass and European electro sound that “Birth Of The Anti Hero” expresses is making a comeback, especially within the states. It may be just at its beginning, but the comeback will continue as long as acts churn out records like this one. It’s dirty, it’s mean and it’s incredibly intoxicating with its fervor. With the remix we get some added vocal elements that make for a nice touch as a flip for the original. Together they’re just what you need to re-enact your own warehouse party! If you’d like to grab the tracks, Beatport has you covered.

[House] Ben Phipps – Mrs Mr ft. Lizzy Land (JackLNDN Remix)

Ben Phipps 🐘
Mrs Mr ft. Lizzy Land (JackLNDN Remix)

Ben Phipps‘ single “Mrs Mr” with Lizzy Land was a nice change of pace from the usual Summer releases. Lizzy’s powerful performance was one of the most memorable of the season and Ben’s electro-infused instrumental was grade A. Now all the components that made the song great have been flipped by JackLNDN.

As smooth as the original was, this one is even smoother with Jack’s groovy, infectious sound. He gets down with a housey take with a deeper, more modern sound than the original. Ben’s was a more a classic, Euro electro sound, whereas JackLNDN delivers his usual fresh, contemporary club sound. This is a track you’re going to want to grab a copy of, or at least add it to your Spotify playlists for Fall. If either of those are what you’re looking for, head over to the track’s platform page today.

[Future Funk] Naxatras – Space Tunnel (Kaptain Remix)

Space Tunnel (Kaptain Remix)

It’s not often you see official remixes by producers for bands that are located a world apart from each other. That happened with Kaptain of San Francisco who was asked to take on “Space Tunnel” by the band Naxatras.

Kaptain’s funky style has breached markets across the world, which isn’t all that surprising considering everyone likes to get groovy. With this Kaptain keeps up the funk, but accents the band’s psychedelic sound with his own hypnotic tone. Part of what makes this remix so incredible is that Kaptain created it without the use of stems because the original track was recorded onto one channel. I’m no producer, but I’m not even sure how you’d go about that. Kaptain succeeded though and now we have a free download to enjoy.

[Indie Dance] NONONO – Masterpiece (Vargas & Lagola Remix)

Masterpiece (Vargas & Lagola Remix)

“Masterpiece” by NONONO was just that. It wasn’t something we thought we’d be getting a remix to, but it has happened thanks to Vargas & Lagola. It wasn’t that the original didn’t have the capacity to be remixed, it just was that it’s such a great track, hard to do justice to. However, V&L did just that.

The duo keep a similar vibe as the original, but give it a more electronic edge. Bouncy with infectious grooves, the newly formed “Masterpiece” is a tasteful take on NONONO. Vargas & Lagola went a slow-jam route, which is fitting for their and NONONO’s styles. It’s the perfect remix for your Fall playlists, as it has just the sound you need no matter what you get yourself into this season.

Something We Once Knew (Remix)

“Something We Once Knew” is Maya Payne‘s most recent original work. It’s something worth checking out and so is PatrickReza‘s take on the track which we have for you today.

Released as a free download, this remix sees Patrick going back to the house genre, except he dives into disco with this edit. “Something We Once Knew” went from alternative pop to a nu-disco style record with one flip. Patrick can tackle any genre he sets his mind to and it’s nice to hear something different with this one. Every time he drops something, it’s worth the listen and the buy. Although it’s been released as a free download, it is still available on digital formats for those looking to support!

[Event Review] NVDES and RAC Rock The Independent, SF 9/19

NVDES
I Want To Make Out At The Gay Club

TMN favorite NVDES opened up with an electrifying performance in support of RAC last Tuesday night. Playing in the intimate setting of The Independent in San Francisco, NVDES surprised an open-minded crowd that collectively seemed unfamiliar with their work. Frontman Josh Ocean and his long time collaborator, fondly known as Lemon Girl, rocked out with endless energy and charisma.

Attendees jammed out to tunes from NVDES’ most recent EP, La NvditĂŠ Vol. 1. The EP was featured here on TMN and went along with an exclusive interview; check it out here. Highlights included the infectious electro-punk tracks “Dancer from New York” and “May and June”.  Ocean and Lemon Girl also graced us with tracks from their older discography, like “I Wanna Make Out at the Gay Club”. True to NVDES nature as a revolving collective, frontman Josh played a few tracks that bandmate Lemon Girl did not know. Much to his credit, Lemon Girl improvised flawlessly and put up a great performance throughout. Finally, they played some unreleased material, sharing some of their political leanings as well as their love for the Hyundai Elantra. Truly an eclectically enjoyable experience– one of the top 3 shows this Music Ninja has been to this year. Continue reading
