[NEW] Nero – Into The Past

Nero
Into The Past

The Great Gatsby continues to astonish us with each and every new release from its soundtrack. Amongst names like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Florence + The Machine, and Lana Del Rey, Nero definitely sticks out like a sore thumb. However, the UK trio proves they more than belong with that collection of heavyweights through their latest effort. The group temporarily leaves their dubstep roots behind to bring us a gorgeous, illustrious landscape with looming, ominous undertones on “Into The Past.” Alanna Watson‘s labored breathing coupled with her haunting and elegant vocals is what really sets the tone for the piece. The group had this to say about the shaping of the sound, and the tune’s central themes:

One of the cues we’d written then developed into a full original song [“Into the Past”], with vocals from Alana. It’s based around one of the central themes of the story, that of memory and Gatsby’s drive to reshape past events.

If you’d like to learn more about how this song came to life, be sure to check out Nero’s exlusive interview with Billboard. Stay tuned for future updates from this outstanding soundtrack, and make sure to grab yourself a copy when it drops on May 7th.

[NEW] Lana Del Rey – Young & Beautiful (from The Great Gatsby soundtrack)

Lana Del Rey
Young & Beautiful

Lana Del Rey makes her return to the new music world, thanks to the forthcoming film The Great Gatsby. “Young & Beautiful” showcases the pop singer in all her somber, dramatic glory. The haunting track is an interesting one for LDR — an H&M model, lovely style icon and overall gorgeous human specimen — as it has her calling out desperately, “Will you still love me when I am no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul?” Fans of the songstress, as well as fans of the tragic literary tale, will enjoy this quite a bit. Listen to it below and be sure to pick up the official Great Gatbsy soundtrack (also featuring Florence and The Machine, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Andre 3000) when it drops May 6th internationally and May 7th here in the US.

[NEW] Florence + The Machine – Over The Love

Florence + the Machine
Over The Love

Today, we bring you the second single from The Great Gatsby soundtrack, Florence + The Machine‘s “Over The Love,” as witnessed in the most recent trailer for the film. For those of you who may not remember the story from your high school English classes, the song is written from the perspective of Daisy Buchanan (played by Carrey Mulligan in the film), Gatsby’s main source of inspiration and affection. Florence’s boisterous vocals are as powerful as ever here, with the band producing one of its most riveting and gripping melodies to date. If you’re not excited for the movie yet, you should at least be anticipating the Jay-Z produced soundtrack, which will be in stores May 7th, three days before the film hits theaters on May 10th. And if you missed it yesterday, check out the first single, “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” along with the album sampler.

A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)

When it was first announced that Jay-Z would be executive producing the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby, we knew big things were to follow. There’s no way we could have ever expected this though. The tracklist alone was enough to get us salivating, but now we have a real sample with “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got).” Featuring the odd trio of Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock, the dance floor ready number effectively merges jazz age sensibilities with modern flare. The song exemplifies what’s already been exhibited in all the previous trailers for the film: the extravagance of the roaring 20’s combined with a contemporary edge meant to appeal to younger audiences in 2013. If you enjoyed your first true taste of the Gatsby soundtrack, make sure to check out the album sampler below, along with the full tracklist after the jump.

They Die By Dawn

Although I was completely unaware of the upcoming movie They Die By Dawn before this morning, the title track from the soundtrack has certainly piqued my interest. The fittingly theatrical cut features two highly regarded, yet elusive, emcees in Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and Jay Electronica who help create a vivid musical trailer over a steadily building western-influenced instrumental. They Die By Dawn is set to be released later this year and its cast will include Michael K Williams and Erykah Badu among several other notable names. In the meantime, hop on your horse, grab your musket and turn the volume up.
