[Video] Rodrigo y Gabriela – Hanuman

Can you really rock out to classical Spanish music with only 2 acoustic guitars? Short answer is HELL YES. Rodrigo y Gabriela aggressive and vibrant domination of the genre began with covering heavy metal songs like Metallica’s Seek n Destroy and now their music has evolved into a musical monster of its own. They just released the music video for “Hanuman” from their 2009 record 11:11 showcasing how hardcore they really are.

[Soft/Pop] The Powder Kegs – La Mariposa

Album Release + Miscellaneous The Powder Kegs

Dreamy, charming and completely catchy, “La Mariposa” is slow pop, jazz-influnced song from Philly-based trio The Powder Kegs. The fusion of two language as the vocals soar throughout the calming pop melodies is quit nostalgic as, yours truly, was born in a spanish speaking country. The diversity in their new 5-song EP “Empty Side” will overstimulated your musical pallet blending elements of jazz, folk, pop and soft-rock into an easily digestible album that will leave you hungry for more.

[Spanish] Carla Morrison – No Viniste (Natalia Lafourcade Cover)

Carla-Morrison---No-Viniste-(Natalia-Lafourcade-Cover)

I just discovered the soft and soothing voice of upcoming Mexican singier/songwriter Carla Morrison on one of my favorite spanish-focused (but not limited) music blog Club Fonograma.

They describe Carla Morrison as a “young talented lady from Tecate Baja California, a fresh face with a remarkable and comforting voice who’s quietly making her way into the realm of Mexican pop. She’s the owner of a heart-trenching vocal instrument, which she radiantly displays through beautiful intimate songs.”

The song below is a beautiful cover of friend and popular Mexican pop-rock singer, Natalia Lafourcade.

If you do not have a twitter account, there is a strong chance that you think twitter is only for people that are bored and have nothing else but to tweet boring messages like “I am at my local starbucks having a latte!” or “Omg my Uncle Jerry just bought me some yummy ice cream!!”. And while there is some TRUTH to that, twitter has become one of the best (non-creepy) ways to meet people with similar interests and, especially for myself, its an amazing source to discover new music.

This morning I asked my followers what where some of their favorite songs they have discovered in the last 7 days and I was blown away by the response. I decided to showcase all their responses below.

If you have a twitter account, make sure you are FOLLOWING ME as well as all the badass people below.

OMFG l33t GUITAR SKILLZ! err.. I mean.. Meet Rodrigo Y Gabriela

I know guys, I am late… If Mexican musical duo Rodrigo y Gabriela is new to you, join the club! As a late Music Ninja bloomer, I was unfortunate to not have discovered them earlier. Yes I am ashamed but its better late than never. Their extremly fast rhythmic classical guitars has become a new addiction to me.

Rodrigo y Gabriela will be releasing a new album “11:11″ next month (September 7, 2009) It will guest star Strunz & Farah on the song “Master Maqui” and guest star Alex Skolnick on the song “Atman.”

Sweet and soothing, Zee Avi’s loving and innocent voice can wrap you up with her mellow song “Bitter Heart” and take you to better places. Her new self titled album Zee Avi July 2009 Summer Songs: Lets Go Outside! was released May 19 of this year. Her popularity rose from posting a video on youtube that eventually caught on like wild fire which eventually led Brushfire Records (partly owned by Jack Johnson) to signed her.
