The eclectic duo, Freedom or Death has a very clear vision. It’s to create compelling art with potent substance and no restrictions. Their debut, self-titled EP expresses that to the fullest. One of our favorite tracks off the EP is “This Crowded Room”. The song opens with a hypnotizing vibrato loop that sets the vibe. Sway’s lush voice soon follows; and progresses with well layered vocal melodies, spread out in the mix. Minimal percussion and light guitars are later brought in to balance out the song, before fading to silence.

Another gem by the Toronto duo is their reinterpretation of “If I Ruled the World” by Nas. Covering a popular song is a tricky process, but they nailed it by focusing on the original’s chorus as a blueprint to build on. They created their own twist, while doing the original version some justice.

For a different flavor of “This Crowded Room”, look to Canadian remixer, Club Seal’s Dubstep remix. He slices up the vocals, and seamlessly places them with grinding, wobble bass-lines and detuned synth stabs. Dubstep is an over-crowded genre, but Club Seal stands out withconsistently solid remixes; which are worth your time.
