Common
Kingdom (feat. Vince Staples)

Veteran Chi-town emcee, Common, takes a break from acting to deliver some new music of the street gospel variety on “Kingdom”. After dropping the Hype Williams-directed video trailer a couple days ago, the G.O.O.D. Music artist gives fans the full song, which includes up ‘n coming west coast emcee Vince Staples.

Staying true to his sociopolitical rhymes, Common takes this tune to a more serious place by drawing attention to the violence and crime that plagued his native neighborhood without getting too preachy. Vince Staples also delivers some dope, thoughtful bars over the No I.D. production, a refreshing break from the “bottle-popping” lyrics of mainstream hip-hop. Mentioning that the streets are their religion, the rappers are appropriately joined by a full church choir on the chorus. “Kingdom” is the first release from Common’s upcoming Nobody’s Smiling, the follow-up to 2011’s No I.D.-produced project The Dreamer/ The Believer, which is set to drop later this year. Also, keep an eye out for the full video for this track in the coming weeks.
