Common‘s “I Used To Love H.E.R.” is revered as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. Nearly twenty years later, we finally have a sequel in “The Next Chapter (Still Love H.E.R.).” The track was crafted for J. Period‘s new mixtape, Rage Is Back, dropping on February 12th in celebration of his new novel by the same name. While the title implies it’s a follow up to the original, I wouldn’t hold it to the same standards as the 1994 classic. It’s much too short, with only one real verse, and doesn’t seem to share the same magical qualities. Even then, it’s still a solid track, and a nice tribute to the Chicago veteran’s legacy.
