Klangstof
Hostage

As you’ve come to know through the years, there’s nothing I enjoy more about blogging than sharing an artist’s debut single. While a lot of the up-and-coming artists take a little while to build up steam after releasing their first track, I have a feeling that this one will move a little quicker. Why’s that? Amsterdam-based Klangstof is the fourth artist off tastemaker label Mind of a Genius, and they’ll follow in the footsteps of acts like ZHU, Gallant, and THEY.

Premiering early today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1, “Hostage” is a delightfully dreary indie rock tune that infuses elements of shoegaze, indie rock, and tidbits of electro pop. These elements are brought to life through glowing guitar work, understated drum pad hits, and progression that latches on early, refusing to go throughout. The last section of the song is particularly impressive, highlighted by a crescendo of crashing percussion and soaring synths.
