Oxford’s Trophy Wife have only just this week released their first 7″ single (you can order it here if you’re interested, which you just may be after giving these tunes a listen), but they’ve already made it close to the top of my “Hurry up and release a full album already” list. As a huge fan of electronic music (partially because of all the interesting things you can do with it), I have to say that I’m pretty intrigued by how much they were able to get into this song with what sounds like nothing more than a guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. The rhythms are intricate and the melodies numerous, but when you break it down, it’s surprising how simple these tunes really are. And what’s so great is the contrast between the two songs. After the unsettling nature of “Microlite”, “Take This Night” sounds, almost literally, like a breathe of fresh air. A strong debut effort from these guys, complete with high expectations for what they give us next.
