Zoogma – New Era [TMN PREMIERE + INTERVIEW]

Zoogma
New Era

Being based in Colorado, we’ve always been in tune with acts that bring an intense live aspect to their shows, as we’ve had figurative front row seats for the substantial growth of acts like Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, and Sunsquabi. We’re not sure if it’s the thin air, the legal goods, or just the overall culture, but there is a distinct sound to the Centennial State. However, while today’s spotlight brings in a fusion of funk, rock, and electronica, your Mile High guess would be inaccurate. These cats are from Nashville, Tennessee, and they’re doing things right.

If you’re not hip to Zoogma quite yet, it won’t be long before you’re grooving to their funky live instrumentation. You needn’t look any further than this post to witness what Brock Bowling (Guitar, Live Sequencing), Matt Harris (Drums, Live Sequencing) Justin Hasting (Guitar, Synthesizer) and Ryan Nall (Bass, Synthesizer) have put together. Take a glance below at “New Era” being performed as they do in front of their adoring fans.

In addition to premiering this video and single, we’re also bringing you a quick Q&A in hopes that you’ll study up on this quickly rising electro-rock act. If you haven’t already, press play on the track or video and read through their responses to a few of our choice questions.

SNBRN Ft. Andrew Watt – Beat The Sunrise (Gianni Kosta Remix) [TMN Premiere]

SNBRN Ft. Andrew Watt
Beat The Sunrise (Gianni Kosta Remix)

This is one track you don’t want to miss today. Gianni Kosta‘s wonderful remix of SNBRN‘s “Beat The Sunrise” will definitely put you in a good mood as you head into the final two days of your work week. As expected, the French producer dialed up his own spin with a melodic house styling complete with an uplifting organ synths and well-placed vocal samples. All in all, it truly does the original justice, while still maintaining Kosta’s signature style.

If you enjoyed the original, this track will be a welcomed change of pace, adding in a little extra spice. Think of it as the chilled out rendition of SNBRN’s “Sunset House” brand. After you’ve had a spin, be sure to check out Gianni’s page if you dig the track. He’s holding it down and creating a name for himself as an artist to watch in 2016.

[House] MORTEN – Beautiful Heartbeat ft. Frida Sundemo (RAC Mix)

MORTEN
Beautiful Heartbeat ft. Frida Sundemo (RAC Mix)

We’ve been keen to both the sounds of producer wunderkind André Allen Anjos, known nearly worldwide as RAC; and Danish Producer & DJ, MORTEN for years now. So, when their unlikely paths came careening together via this darker than normal RAC remix of MORTEN’s “Beautiful Heartbeat”, we were quick to fall for its liquid groove. A bit more of a shot to the underground house clubs than the indie-dance floors RAC’s become synonymous with over the years. Anjos’ skill in regards to experimental pop studio work has always taken stage front and center, with that analog synthesizer and drum-machine sound more often than not bound to the rather expansive RAC library; but his latest remix is fueled by much larger sounds. A driving kick-drum takes front-and-center immediately after a hollow synth lead clears just enough room for Frida Sundemo‘s haunting vocal track to wonderfully punctuate each and every passing note. RAC’s always had a way of making dance music extremely palatable to most any level of listener, and on this revision of “Beautiful Heartbeats” he’s hit the nail on the head yet again. This one pairs oh so pefectly with a night drive to the city. Stream RAC’s “Beautiful Heartbeat” remix above.

[Electronic] October Glow – New Casio

October Glow
New Casio

October Glow finally returns after a short silence with a glimmering and emphatic new release. Since the week is halfway over, we all need a moment to catch our breath, and “New Casio” soothes with sweltering synths and otherworldly vocals that weave together in a sublime coalescence. There’s an overarching, but subtle sense of hope constructed in the tune as it builds a mighty crescendo into an ambient and mellow outro that deviates from the earlier structure in a seamless fashion. October Glow may have a short collection of songs at the moment, but this fresh new sound, along with the equally noteworthy “Cellar Door,” creates quite the case for more exploration into this intriguing producer. Show support where you can and keep you ears open for more October Glow in the near future.

[House/Electronic] Option4 – Activate/DOAUK EP

If you’ve perused these pages for any significant amount of time, it’s highly likely you’ve come across Denver based house producer Option4 at least once or twice. A former TMN ‘Resident Artist of the Month’ back in April 2015, and half of burgeoning duo 909 Til Infinity, Option4 has found numerous way to work his constantly shifting and infectious house sound into our ears on a constant basis. With releases on some of dance music’s most notable underground labels including Fool’s Gold & Nervous, Option4’s latest release sees a welcome return to Australian imprint Sweat It Out! (also home to the likes of RÜFÜS and Motez), and their sub-label Club Sweat with the A/B side Activate EP. In just two breezy tunes, Option4 deftly shows off a clear range of sonic dance soundscapes, for what may be without a doubt one of our favorite releases ever from the shapeshifting producer.

While I swore to never use this term in music writing for 2016, A side “Activate” is a certified banger. An absolute monster on a proper system that we’ve had the pleasure of hearing tried and tested many times before its release, and a unique take on club music, “Activate” glides along on gigantic bass swells and a hooky vocal to result in one of the finest club weapons we’ve seen in the short span of 2016. “DOAUK” is the extended play’s darker,  melodic counterpart. Gloomy melodies enhance “DOAUK”‘s classic-leaning, shuffling rhythm, while a set of high-reaching pads set the perfect backdrop for each one of the tune’s thumping aural components to land on. Quite simply, Option4 trots out into 2016 with an excellent new EP, setting the stage for a gigantic 2016 and one we’ll be on top of as it continues to rise. [Video] JOYRYDE ft. Rick Ross – Windows

JOYRYDE Ft. RICK RO$$
WINDOWS

Kicking off the year 2016, JOYRYDE has managed to gather all the hype in the world and created a brand to himself. His new track, titled “Windows”, was meant to be a collab with Shaquille O’Neal. A Rick Ross verse was then inserted in production, which would ultimately end up as this epic track. JOYRYDE incorporates a series of brassy synth stabs into a trap beat, together with the heavyhitting kicks that will give you endless adrenaline rush. Rick Ross’ verse fits right in the mix, resulting in an urban dance joint that exemplifies the “Rosé Swurve” fusion.

[Indie] Daisy Chain – Bianca Casady

Bianca Casady
Daisy Chain

You may have heard of the talented sister duo CocoRosie some time in the recent past. They’ve been making some pretty innovative stuff—characterized by experimental vocals, depth of lyrics, and feminine power. Today we bring you a release from half of the CocoRosie project, Bianca Casady. The Paris-based producer has released her track, “Daisy Chain,” and we’re pretty stoked about how different it is.

The best way we can describe this tune is beautifully morbid, and its morbidity lies equally in the instrumentation as it does the lyrics. Demonstrating her French influence, Casady opens “Daisy Chain” with Mr. Sad Accordion, which is our name for her accordion sample, not an actual person. We wish. She simultaneously brings in a sample of a piano, but it’s like one of those pianos you’d find in an abandoned house off the interstate that you really shouldn’t go in. She continues to play on these creepy versions of accordion, piano and eventually guitar in ways that perfectly compliment her death-ridden lyrics: “We’re all in line for the daisy chain… nothing but a chain gang pickin’ wild flowers by the roadside. No one in the boneyard bringing milk and honey to their loved ones.” We’ll leave the interpretation up to you. But the interpretation we will leave you with is that of the whole song—a creepy success.
