Lana del Ray is a delicious combination of old and new. A thoroughly modern pop star with a sultry retro twist, the Brooklyn singer-songwriter takes her influences from pop culture icons such as Britney Spears and Nancy Sinatra. ‘Video Games’ is an enthralling example of del Ray (Lizzy Grant to her friends) at her most haunting, with incredible vocals and piano weaving in and out to entrance the listener. ‘Diet Mtn Dew’ is more of an upbeat pop track, with Spector-influenced production and typical girl-group handclaps. Lana del Ray’s considerable and obvious talent make her an enticing prospect, and a definite one to watch. ‘Video Games’ is out on Stranger Records.
