Belle Game @ Cafe Du Nord. San Francisco, 2/6/18

Vancouver-based indie pop band Belle Game made an appearance at the cozy Cafe du Nord here in San Francisco this week. Playing in the basement of the Swedish American Music Hall to a small yet eager crowd, Belle Game put on quite the show of passion and skill. Lead singer Andrea Lo absolutely brought the energy on a Tuesday night, holding nothing back. By the end of the show, her infectious spirit was reciprocated by the small gathering of music fans in attendance.

Guitarist Adam Nanji

Described as being “somewhere between new-age visions and unkempt basements”, Belle Game masterfully walks the line between lo-fi garage band vibes and dreamy crush-pop magic. Lead singer Lo put her pipes on full display, effortlessly floating between the impassioned lyrical invocations on “Bring Me” and the ethereal serenading heard on “Spirit”. She flawlessly hit the falsettos on the latter track, giving us a sense of her versatility and talent. Other highlights included their live rendition of “Yuh” (my personal favorite Belle Game track), and “Up Again” (a close second for me). These four tracks represent an excellent starting point if you’ve never heard anything from this group before.

Lead Singer Andrea Lo and Keyboardist Katrina Jones

Backed up by guitarist Adam Nanji, keyboardist Katrina Jones, and drummer Alex Andrew, Belle Game rocked out for an absolute treat of a show on an otherwise slow weekday night. They’ve got a few more tour dates coming up here in the US– catch them if you have the chance!
