[Hip/Hop] Chiddy Bang – Ray Charles

Philly’s Chiddy Bang have paid homage to one of music’s greatest with new track ‘Ray Charles’. Produced by Xaphoon Jones and packed with jaunty piano and a real soul vibe with the Motown-style female BVs, it’s an incredibly fitting tribute to Charles. However, the real star of this show is Chiddy’s fast flow, which ticks all the boxes and takes this track to a new level. Chiddy Bang’s debut will be out on February 28, and will feature the sensational ‘Ray Charles’.

[Mixtape] Chiddy Bang – Peanut Butter & Swelly

Serving as a prequel to their upcoming debut album Breakfast, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege and Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin released their third Mixtape consisting of 12 tracks featuring several other artists including Trae, Mac Miller, Casey Veggies, The Knocks.

Since we featured Chiddy Bang back in 2009, we have seen the duo grow more confident in their style and production, and this mixtape definitely reflects their growth and maturity. As one of the few groups to flawlessly combine very distinctive indie rock and electronic elements with an uplifting and well executed hip/hop flow.

[Hip/Hop] Chiddy Bang – Baby Roulette

The adored and always loved Philadelphians, Chiddy Bang have been awfully busy working on the release of their debut studio LP, The Swelly Life. While most people are still digesting and/or enjoying their EP from last year, the hip-hop duo has seen it fit to release some of the demos and outtakes that won’t make it on the album. I must say; if these didn’t make it on the album, I would really like to see what did—as these are some pretty amazing tracks.

The Swelly Life will be released independently later this year.

[Chiddy Bang] Young Blood (Remix) + Bad Day (Feat. Darwin Deez)

Power up the synths, switch on the echo, dump the guitars, and insert Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege to spit red hot fire. This is not one of those “slightly sped up remixes”–Chiddy Bang‘s recent redo of The Naked & Famous‘ already tight “Young Blood” retains the lyrics and the tune, but is less anthem and more dance party.

As TN&F hail from New Zealand, it’s no surprise that a bit of Kiwi influence crept into Chiddy Bang’s ears while on tour earlier this month in Australia. Fortunately for us, the result is a big-speaker worthy track. Sounding like a conference call between MGMT, Passion Pit and a rhyme machine, this jam is worth “accidentally” blasting through the office at 5pm on Friday.

“Young Blood (Remix)” was recently released as a pre-hype track for Chiddy Bang’s new EP “The Preview” from EMI that hit the US on October 12. Just in case you missed it earlier this summer, be sure to check out TN&F’s original version below off their September release “Passive Me, Aggressive You” from Somewhat Damaged.

It’s rare that a track about breaking up can sound so fun, but in “Bad Day” Chiddy Bang keep the emotional heavy lifting light enough to let you dance. With enough of a beat and bright synths to keep us swaying and not crying, Chiddy Bang twists the classic “I hate my ex” track into something way more reasonable.

Awk-rockers Darwin Deez (of “Radar Detector” fame) roll out the catchy chorus and launch some hate at the ex with lines like, “Well, I hope you get locked out of that apartment…and have to call Jenny.” Pretty good burn, Darwin.

This track is worth a few listens as it comes out a bit awkward at first, but after a couple plays “Bad Day” will definitely find a place in your head to get stuck.

Originally a track from Darwin Deez, “Bad Day” gets a tight makeover by Chiddy Bang’s Xaphoon Jones and Philly-based buddy Theodore Grams. The adaptation serves as a fine single on Chiddy Bang’s new October 12 release “The Preview” from EMI.

Here’s the problem, music blogs post a ton of Chiddy Bang tracks, and the only solution is for the duo to stop putting out such good music. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening any time soon.

[Hip/Hop] Chiddy Bang – The Fuck You (Remix) + The Good Life (Monsieur Adi Remix)

The MC in this song is right. A remix of the popular ear-worm, “Fuck You” was inevitable.

Chiddy Bang has made their name choosing unconventional samples like MGMT on their first single “Opposite of Adults”. The verses are pretty good on this track, and it’s a good way to listen to Cee-Lo‘s smash single without playing the original for the umpteenth time. It’s pretty obvious they rushed this out to capitalize on the popularity of “Fuck You”, but it doesn’t dampen the song.

This won’t be winning any Grammys for Chiddy Bang, but it’s a good track for now.

Fresh out of the oven. A brand new remix from Monsieur Adi taking Chiddy Bang’s laidback The Good Life into a whole new direction. He tell us, “The original has such a nice laid back flow and rhythm, but I wanted to give it a different feel and make it ready for dancing. I added some synths, robotics, and strings over a breakbeat and played a little with the rhythm of Chiddy’s vocals”.

Awaiting their debut album releasing later next month, Chiddy Bang has always been looking for the good life, and with co-producer Pharrell on board on their latest track, they have definitely found it. While Chiddy Bang’s latest track The Good Life has a very simplistic and soulful beat to it Proto’s laid back rhymes really come through.

The Preview, Chiddy Bang’s debut album is set to release October 11th 2010.

[Video] Chiddy Bang – Truth

“Having met at college in Philly in 2008, the duo quickly came up with a fistful of tunes which circulated around the American college circuit like wildfire. In summer 2009 their debut mixtape, ‘Swelly Express’ was uploaded on to myspace and received over 80,000 downloads in a month. Since then the band have been riding on the crest of a wave with Kanye showing much love on his blog and playing support shows with the likes of Wale, Kid Cudi, Snoop Dogg, Three 6 Mafia and Mike Posner.

Next single, ‘Truth’ is another stomping tune and stays true to the bands new school sampling form this time sampling Passion Pit’s ‘Better Things’.”
