[Synthpop] Charli XCX – What I Like (Remix) (Feat. Danny Brown)

Charli XCX
What I Like (Remix) ft. Danny Brown

In honor of the release of her new album, True Romance, today in the UK, Charli XCX decided to unleash the remix to her standout track, “What I Like” featuring Danny Brown. Charming and aggressive are two words that usually come to mind when describing Charli XCX’s music, and coincidentally enough, those words could also be applied to the eccentric Danny Brown as well. Danny’s proven over the past few weeks, that he’s not afraid to hop on just about anything, as he’s gone on a promotional tear in anticipation of his new album, Old. While “What I Like” was already an infectious pop tune, the inclusion of Danny Brown this time around really adds some new dimensions to the track, making it a must listen for fans of both artists. Make sure to grab a copy of True Romance when it hits our shores tomorrow.

[Hip-Hop] Cassow – Oh Lord (Feat. Danny Brown) (Prod. Stewart Villain)

Cassow
Oh Lord Ft. Danny Brown (Prod. Stewart Villain)

Oh man, Danny Brown has just been on an absolute tear recently. As documented here and here, the Detroit rapper’s been on his promotional grind, trying to churn out as much new music as he possibly can in preparation for his upcoming Old album. In the meantime, he’s been able to help use his name to provide shine to some lesser known artists. That’s exactly the case here with Portland-based emcee, Cassow. While Cassow may be new to some ears, he proves he’s no amateur, as he goes in over some lush, elaborate production courtesy of Stewart Villain. When you think of hip-hop, Portland certainly isn’t the first place that comes to mind, but Cassow is definitely blazing the trail for his fellow Oregonians (see what I did there?). Check out his new Cold Winter mixtape for some more ill tracks like this one.

[Electro/Hip-Hop] K.Flay – Hail Mary (Feat. Danny Brown) (Prod. Felix Cartal)

K.Flay
Hail Mary (ft. Danny Brown)

It’s Monday, which probably means it’s now time to atone for some of your more inappropriate escapades from the past weekend. California femcee K.Flay recognizes that, although she’s not about to admit to being a sinner. Hoping to relive some of the memories she made (and presumably forgot), K.Flay pulls off a delicate balancing act between sultry vocals and provocative lyrics over some opaque and buzzing production from Felix Cartal. Meanwhile, Danny Brown continues on his recent rampage of absolutely murdering guest verses. By now, you should all be familiar with the Detroit spitter’s frenzied, and almost deranged style. While Danny definitely makes his presence known, he doesn’t take anything away from K.Flay, who certainly holds her own. If you’re interested in hearing more from the young female emcee, check out her recently released West Ghost tape. While this particular song isn’t a part of that project, you can still grab the free download below.

[Hip-Hop] Danny Brown – Express Yourself (Prod. Trampy)

Danny Brown
Express Yourself (Prod. by Trampy)

We all know Danny Brown has no problems at all when it comes to expressing himself. With his newest single, he’s encouraging us all to follow suit, although this is mostly aimed at the ladies. The Detroit rapper gives credit to Diplo/Major Lazer as his primary source of inspiration for this one. For those keeping score, Diplo released an EP and single with the same name, around this time last year. Danny definitely does Diplo proud over a minimalistic, trapped-out beat from the adequately named, Trampy. It doesn’t seem like this one will make it onto Danny’s upcoming Old album, but if he’s looking for a radio-friendly single, he could do far worse.

Lo and behold, the song became a trending topic within minutes, and the Detroit spitter delivered on his promise. Even in a comatose state, Danny’s energy cannot be contained, as he brings his patented dexterous and eccentric rhyme scheme to flow over some rapid, scampering synths courtesy of Skywlkr. The final version of this song is set to feature A$AP Rocky, and can be found on Danny’s upcoming album, Old, dropping later this year.
