Off the heels of Outside Lands, an incredible set from Washed Out in Oakland and escalating social turmoil, I had a wide array of music to share on this week’s episode–from the left field hip-hop of ZGTO to Photay‘s infectious electronica to straight disco bliss from Folamour and Moon Boots. There’s a lot going on in the world right now and I hope this injection of diverse tunes helps you get through the week!

Dirty Projectors – The Socialites (Joe Goddard Remix)

After dropping the critically acclaimed album Swing Lo Magellan, the indie band Dirty Projectors had a slew of remixes that followed . One of the musicians to take a turn on their lead single “The Socialites” is Hot Chip‘s Joe Goddard. Adding some xylophones and soft drum samples for an airy beat, Goddard makes a smooth remix driven by Amber Coffen‘s charming vocals. Packaging up some unreleased remixes to their lead single “The socialites”, the group prepares to drop a 12″ vinyl later this May.

[NEW] The Dirty Projectors – There’s a Fire

After delivering a great performance at Carnegie Hall this past month, Brooklyn indie rock band Dirty Projectors treat their fans to some new material in the form of a 7″  limited edition vinyl. The b-side to their single “Offspring Are Blank” is the light rock track “There’s a Fire”. Staying true to their quirky, 60’s era sound, the group keep an organic and intricate vibe to this track. Mixing many different rips from acoustic guitar, tambourine, to electric guitar, this playful tune is a nice treat for music lovers. Be sure to take a listen below and view their upcoming tour dates this spring and summer.

[Experimental-Rock] The scrammbled Yet Non-Chaotic Melodies of Dirty Projectors

dirty projects
Been going over a couple of best of 2009 lists and it is clearly unanimous that Dirty Projects “Bitte Orca” is considered one of the best albums of this year. It is in everyone’s top 50 and if we were to create a best of list (still contemplating it) they would definitely make top 10. The Brooklyn-based experimental rock band DIrty Projects create an unusually sound of spiralling vocals with twisting melodies that surprisingly results in a very relaxed formed of experimental music. It is full of unorganized tunes yet non-chaotic in nature when it all comes tightly packed together. Bitte Orca which means “Please Whale” in German, will be considered one of the most wonderful surprises to have come to us in 2009.
