[Electronic] Sun Glitters – Always the Same

Sun Glitters
Always the Same

Luxembourg-based producer Victor Ferreira, aka Sun Glitters, has given the music community some gold over the years. With a knack for chill wave and side-chain filters, Ferreira always brings us a product that is easy on the ears. Having produced with artists such as Steffaloo and Slow Magic, Sun Glitters always delivers us a good dose of chill with every release, and the chill quotient continues to climb with his latest single “Always The Same” off his newest EP Diving Into Reality.

Given the title of the EP we believe that Diving Into Reality is a successful attempt by Ferreira to explore common themes in reality by manifesting them through sound and that’s exciting to us. “Always the Same” is appropriately driven by a side-chain synth wave that sounds like it’ll go on forever. As the song continues you’ll hear a product that sounds ongoing—like it’ll continue on its same course.

But where we see the beauty in this is that when you listen to every element in the song you’ll find that every little sound entails its own course of action that actually does vary from measure to measure. Just like in life, it seems that Ferreira has found a way to make us aware that there is change in the constant. It is all in the details. And the details are pretty beautiful.

[Indie/Rock] Wild Beasts – Woebegone Wanderers II

Wild Beasts
Woebegone Wanderers II

Contrary to what their name evokes, Wild Beasts continue to be some of the smoothest and softest songsmiths around with unreleased track ‘Woebegone Wanderers II,’ which was premiered on Jon Hopkins Radio 1 this week.

Recorded around the time of their last release, Present Tense, which was quietly one of the best albums of 2014, the song is a continuation of ‘Woebegone Wanderers’ which appeared on the British group’s debut Limbo, Panto way back in 2008.

After gently swirling around the space in your head in that signature brooding Wild Beasts style for around two minutes, ‘Woebegone Wanderers II’ dissolves into echoing glitter for the final third, floating off until you inevitably drag it back down for yet another listen.

[Electronic] Anna Of The North – Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Anna of the North
Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)(Free DL)

For those of you who may have first caught wind of The Chainsmokers through “Selfie” (and who blames you), you may not know that the duo got their first following in the industry by producing remixes of some of the most eclectic group of indie artists in the market today. They were some listener’s first introductions to Say Lou Lou, ASTR, and Banks. Now that the two are on two bigger and grander things like XM Radio shows, multimillion dollar recording deals, and creators of the song that nearly broke Youtube, they decided to take a nostalgic trip back to their indie roots and try out a new remix. Luckily for us, they picked up TMN-favorite Anna Of The North and her single “Sway” and bring her into the spotlight. The Norwegian dream pop starlet gets her angelic voice reinforced by the Chainsmokers’ outstanding production which is quite honestly a match made in heaven. AOTN was our best kept secret, but it seems like she will be ruling the airwaves sooner than we previously thought thanks to this long-anticipated remix by two of the industry’s best.

[Indie/Synth-Pop] GEMOLOGY – First & Last [TMN Premiere]

GEMOLOGY
First & Last

We’re starting this fine Tuesday morning with a beautiful bang in the form of a TMN Premiere for Brooklyn dream-pop duo GEMOLOGY‘s first ever single “First & Last”. The translucent and multifaceted pairing of Natasha Chitayat and Joanie Wolkoff, GEMOLOGY respires a new life into an often times saturated synth-pop genre while providing their listeners with a visionary brand of pensive and introspective pop assemblage. While Natasha is a multi-instrumentalist/producer with an unwavering pop sensibility with Joanie cutting her teeth as a songer/songwriter with credits on projects such as Foxe Basin, Safra Nikoto and a forthcoming project titled “Her Habits.”; it seems they’ve both found the perfect musical balance for each others’ strengths. “First & Last” is a brooding slice of Chitayat’s resolute pop sensibility coupled with Wolkoff’s penetrating voice and lyrics; pulling from us a sense of longing, but also simultaneous hope. They say art in its purest form makes its audience feel something; and “First & Last” delicately pulls its listener in a number of welcome directions.  This one from GEMOLOGY got us off on the completely right foot this morning. Let it do the same for you.

Every once in a while you discover a group you like so much that you keep finding out more about them while wearing a smile on your face. Here we have this husband-wife indie pop duo called Tape Waves from South Carolina who bring us a gem off of their debut album Let You Go, titled “Ready Now.”

Don’t let their quirkiness and lack of intimidation fool you–they masterfully handled this selection of dream pop tunes. The mellow instrumentals match perfectly with the female vocals, which are both muffled and sustained for the dreamy and psychedelic effect. Their music is makes you feel good and want to lay back and relax. They stay true to their musical roots by bringing in fun and peaceful vibes from their hometown and into their music, expressing their lifestyle through lyrical and melodic maneuvers.

Go get a copy of their album and judge for yourself. Tape Waves are definitely a group to watch and one for all the music enthusiasts out there.

[Chill] Anna Of The North – ILYAF 1996

ANNA OF THE NORTH
ILYAF 1996

We have selfishly been hiding this track from you guys for far too long. Anna Of The North is, bar none, the greatest talent you’ve never heard of and that has gone on for far too long. I think it’s only fair to end my blogathon run with this track as it is my personal favorite and one of the most played songs in my personal collection. Donna Lewis’ 1996 karaoke classic “I Love You Always Forever” may be forgotten in the eyes and ears of most, but not Anna Lotterud of Oslo, Norway. This future legend dusted off the record and recruited producing extraordinaire Brady Daniell-Smith to recreate and as you can see, it is streets ahead of the original. Anna’s silky and warm voice pays tribute to Lewis’s rendition but, over Brady’s dream pop composition, becomes a euphoric and infectiously happy cover. I challenge ever Ninja to listen to this once (or thirty times), by the end you’ll be smiling, guaranteed. But this starlet’s catalogue doesn’t end here. Her Sway EP, now on iTunes, is one of the best 1-2 punches of 2014. Sway, America’s next great radio hit, is already turning major heads in both the creative and A&R sides of the industry and the B-side, Undervann, is one of the most hauntingly beautiful things you will ever hear. The future is so bright for this young artist (and her production team) and we can’t wait to see how far she’ll go!

[Dream-Pop] AYER – YOUNG

AYER
YOUNG

We’ve been all ears on deck since debuting AYER, the independent musical melding of vocalist Danny Schmittler and producer Mickey Valen of NOOSA acclaim back in October. “YOUNG” the second single released from AYER‘s forthcoming debut EP,  takes its form behind a synth progression plucked right out of a John Hughes movie, and a low end that had this writer melting all over. There is a heavy sense of emotion contained within AYER’s music, evoking shades of being in love, slight melancholia, inspirative instrumentation and it just downright oozes sexiness. As we approach the weekend, we wear a large grin knowing that as a free download “YOUNG” will be many a weapon of seduction in the coming days. Make it yours.
