[Electro/Hip-Hop] Ellie Goulding – Hanging On (ft. Tinie Tempah)

The angelic voice of Ellie Goulding returns with a bass-heavy electro cover of Active Child’s Hanging On featuring one of the UK’s most talented hip-hop artists, Tinie Tempah. I love seeing all the EDM and hip-hop collaborations and Tinie definitely adds a great dynamic to the song. This track has that huge sound that makes whatever it is you’re doing seem incredibly important. Great for zoning in on some work or just relaxing with your headphones turned up. You can download the song free here.

Gemmy – Lakota (AC Slater Remix)

I’ll always remember the 2nd show I went to in 2009. It was Hard Summer, the last year they hosted it at The Forum. Before the Fire Marshals and LAPD came to tear gas the crowds that were trying to make their way into the overbooked venue, I got a chance to see a few of the artists play their set. One of them was AC Slater, and man, was his set sick.

And so is this new remix. “Lakota,” by Gemmy, has been turned into a big bassy breakbeat served for breakfast. There’s a quality to AC Slater’s music that remains so undeniably authentic; he holds true to his signature styles. His transitions from arpeggiated basslines to the stabby fifths to the insanely dirty drop…this song just makes my extremities want to fly and flail all over the place, in the most wonderful way possible. Check this track out, and you’ll see what I mean.

This track will be released by Roska Kicks & Snares LTD on 7/30/2012

But in the meantime, listen here.

[Electro/House] Farleon – Millenium EP

While Kazakhstan is best known for the likes of Borat, I’d like to think there’s a new force in EDM that might just change that. His name is Farleon, and this 18 year old is showing a lot of promise already. His Millenium EP released at #9 on Beatport’s Electro House charts, and needless to say, I’m excited to see what this kid’s going to bring to the table.

The eponymous track off the EP, “Millenium,” filled with aggressively arpeggiated sequences and beautifully sidechained synths, is a guaranteed feel good jam. The second track “Living Your Life,” is my personal favorite. He takes the arpeggios, synths, and filters, only to complement them with some grimy basslines and a catchy vocal sample. Take a listen, and you’ll see what I mean. I already know what Borat is thinking (see above picture).

The Millenium EP was released 7/2 on Funkk Sound Recordings, and can be purchased here.

[Electro House] Damn Kids – Choke (Jed Harper Remix)

It seems like they just keep getting younger and younger. At just 16, Damn Kids was putting out remixes and already making his name known in the industry. Just a few short years later, the Toronto based youngster has a tasty remix EP of his track, Choke.

We chose this remix as one of our favorites because it maintains the original bass laiden feel of the original track, but also has that progressive, synth driven sound that we’re so fond of. Remixer and felllow Torontonian Jed Harper has sliced up this track proper. The synths give it that big room appeal that’s perfect for a club or show, but the drop leads way into a delightfully dark and dirty electro bass line that ties it all back into the original.

If you’re digging this sound, make sure to head over to beatport and pick up the rest of the EP.

[Electro] Bob Sinclar ft. Sean Paul – Tik Tok (Chuckie & R3hab Remix)

“Dirty Dutch” electro boys Chuckie and R3hab have been hard at work crafting out some synth filth with a little help from their Jamaican friend Sean Paul.

After hearing the bongo’s I’ll be honest – I wasn’t sure where this track was heading, but Chuckie and R3hab slam an angry “WHAT?!?!” in your face followed by some pulsating synth drops capable of giving you a small seizure!

Since hearing this track only this morning, it’s already made the Holy Grail of my iPod playlists – “Favorite Electro Tunes”. I know many of you will say it’s “too soon” and “that’s SO not cool” but life’s about taking risks – right?
