The homie and master beatmaker Causmic dropped by TMN Radio this week to share selections from his debut solo album Wormholes and a few tracks that inspired it. We chopped it up about the galaxy, our mutual love of Flying Lotus and the visual influences behind ‘Wormholes.’ Building off Causmic’s otherworldly originals, we kept the instrumentals going with a wide array of experimental beats and a sprinkle of new hip-hop.

[Experimental] Flying Lotus – Coronus, The Terminator

Coronus, The Terminator

Flying Lotus released yet another peek into his upcoming album today with “Coronus, The Terminator.” While the tracks we’ve heard thus far seem to lean a bit more towards the darkness of his 2010 album, Cosmogramma, the latest glimpse combines those vibes with the aesthetic of his most recent project, Until the Quiet Comes. The result is ominous, yet relaxed and glimmering, making for a laid-back, albeit brief, listening experience. Give this one a spin above–You’re Dead! is out October 7th via Warp Records.

[NEW] Captain Murphy – Cosplay

’Captain Murphy – Cosplay’

Over the course of this week, legendary experimental producer Flying Lotus has been unveiling information about his highly anticipated upcoming album, You’re Dead. In addition to sharing the dark, trippy album artwork and exciting tracklist, which includes features from Snoop DoggKendrick Lamar, renowned jazz musician Herbie Hancock and FlyLo’s rapping alter-ego Captain Murphy, he also let loose a new Captain Murphy track today through Adult Swim’s Singles Program titled “Cosplay.”

For anyone who hasn’t been to Comic Con, the term cosplay is short for “costume play,” a performance art most commonly involving people dressing up as existing fictional characters and creating intertwined story lines–quite fitting in this case. As we’ve come to expect from the Captain, this new offering is brooding and ominous with warping vocals and disorienting production. For some more background on FlyLo’s menacing other half, watch an awesome animated short about the origins of Captain Murphy here.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, FlyLo said the new project will “mess up the game” diving into themes of death and the afterlife through music. We’re certainly excited to hear his take on the age-old question on You’re Dead, which is set for release on October 7th. Stream this new offering above and look for a free download via Adult Swim on August 18th.

S.D.S. (prod. Flying Lotus)

The evolution of Mac Miller has been pretty awesome to watch as the Pittsburgh emcee’s true artistry and creativity have blossomed as of late. Today, the young Mac drops off the first single from his upcoming sophomore album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, and it does not disappoint.

“S.D.S.,” an acronym standing for Somebody Do Something, features the psychedelic instrumentation of the legendary Flying Lotus and captures the growth of a rising star. Mac spits with a stream of consciousness flow that oscillates between deep thoughts and comic pondering nearly flawlessly. Check out this mind-bending track below, grab it on iTunes tomorrow if you’re digging it and look out for big things from Mac Miller in 2013.

[Hip-Hop] Kami de Chukwu – Anna Nicole Smith (Prod. Flying Lotus)

With its whimsical bleeps and persistent claps, I’ve always felt Flying Lotus‘ “Putty Boy Strut” was primed for a rap remix. Chicago native, Kami de Chukwu takes on the task admirably, lacing the nearly three minute long track with his aggressive yet intricate flow. Kami’s displayed amazing growth on each and every song he’s released over the past year, and this one’s no different. Expect to hear more from him when his next project, SMOKE, drops later this spring.

[NEW] Flying Lotus – Such a Square

Flying Lotus reunites with Adam “Lilfuchs” Fuchs–the animator who brought Captain Murphy to life–to introduce Moog’s Sup Phatty synthesizer to the world. They could not have plucked a better pair to showcase the new instrument’s capabilities, as FlyLo’s trippy, eccentric beats are deeply complemented by the sensory overload created through Fuchs’  euphoric visuals. After a stellar 2012, Lotus is showing no signs of fatigue. Let’s just hope we get some more material from him (either as Lotus or Murphy) now that he has this brand new toy to play with.
