[Folk House] Avicii – Wake Me Up

Avicii
Wake Me Up

If you’ve been following us, you know that we’re a fan of all types of music. We love hip hop, we love soul, we love folk, and we love EDM. When it comes down to it, we love just about anything, so long as it’s good. For myself, I’m a huge fan of folk music. Throw on some Devendra Banhart or Angus Stone and I’m a happy camper. I also love to get down when the time comes. With that being said, I was admittedly a little confused by Avicii’s uber controversial live performance.

After the party vibe from Ultra has settled, and we’ve had a time to digest the musical aspect from Pete Tong’s world premiere of “Wake Me Up,” I can now say I’m a huge fan. Some forms of folk music have a strong dance sound rooted in it’s history (i.e. Irish céilí dances). It’s actually quite logical to expect that to be discovered by a producer, and it did. Avicii has taken Aloe Blacc’s soulful lyrics and infused his signature production styles with a dancy beat, uplifting melodies, and scuffed guitar riffs to create this folk infused house beauty.

Whether you loved or hated his live interpretation, you can’t help but feeling a little warm and fuzzy by this highly anticipated release.
