[Pop] Hoodboi – Tip Of My Tongue (feat. TZAR)

Hoodboi continues his comeback with “Tip Of My Tongue” featuring TZAR. After not releasing music for around a year, Hoodboi’s here with his second single since he’s returned and it’s a doozy. With how good this one is, you won’t be forgetting it or its name anytime soon.

The electronic pop crossover “Tip Of My Tongue” implores several sounds into one nice and neat package. Once delivered to your ears, it melts away the negativity with its smooth, sexy sound. Hoodboi continues to show off different sides to his style, one that is as dynamic as incredible. “Tip Of My Tongue” is just one piece of evidence for that – one that you can add to your digital library today thanks to Fool’s Gold Records.

[Hip-Hop] A-Trak & Falcons – Ride For Me feat. Young Thug & 24hrs

It’s been long said that A-Trak and Young Thug have a lot of material ready to fire off. Recently we got a piece of the action by way of their song “Ride For Me” with Falcons and 24hrs. This hip-hop heater was released on Fool’s Gold Records with quick praise from fans and media alike.

“Ride For Me” sees each collaborator work off each other selflessly. Instead of having too many cooks in the kitchen with sounds/styles clashing, these four acts came together as a team to make something particularly dope. “Ride For Me” is currently out on digital platforms, so if you’re looking to add it to your library you may do so.

Tommy Trash & A-Trak – Lover feat. Jesse Boykins III (Hood Rich Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Welcome to the dojo for another first listen with a premiere from Hood Rich. From our friends at Fool’s Gold Records comes an official remix by the Queensland producer of “Lover” originally by Tommy Trash and A-Trak with Jesse Boykins III. Although the track is due out on the Group Chat Remixes EP, we’ve come together to give you an early listen to this bumpin’ cut a day early.

Hood Rich gets deep and dirty with this fresh take on “Lover.” House and tech heads are in for a real treat with this one as it’s smooth grooves are just what clubs and festivals are desiring. The original single was a bit more upbeat, with an electro edge to it that Hood Rich trades for a darker tone. Overall it makes for a solid remix with a sound completely different than the original. Hood Rich made it his own while doing justice to the original tenfold.

[Electronic] Nick Hook – Relationships (Album)

Electronic music and hip-hop have always had a unique relationship. Despite the fact that they, in many ways, evolved from similar revolutionary production techniques, they don’t always find ideal synergy. Through out his budding career, NY-based producer Nick Hook has continually blurred lines between the two with a taste that proves an understanding of music outside of genre constraints. That versatility is a direct product of his diverse background in the industry starting as a multi-genre guitarist and evolving into a producer who’s worked with Young Thug, Run the Jewels, DJ Rashad, Hudson Mohawke and Baauer among others (and that’s leaving out the star-studded list of collaborators in the rock world.)

Relationships, his debut album, serves as a triumphant crescendo on his ascension bringing in too many collaborators to list in a way that feels far more natural than similarly bold projects. Perhaps the secret falls in the album name–Hook seems to have a genuine understanding of the artists he’s working with: allowing their input without ever losing site of cohesion.

The album carries a steadily wavy, experimental vibe through out from the off-kilter, Makonnen-featuring ballad “All Alone” to Awful Records posse cut “Pro-Choice,” a typically absurd outing for the ATLiens. At the same time, Hook’s not afraid to turn things up with the heavy-hitting Grime cut “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” posthumously DJ Rashad-assisted “+3,” east coast cypher “Live While I’m Livin,” and “Head,” perhaps the hardest-hitting song thanks to 21Savage. All that variation is tied together by the project’s brief, but gorgeous, instrumental moments such as “Forever” and “Evolisontherise,” which features Hudson Mohawke.

Relationships, which is out now on Fool’s Gold Records, is an ambitious outing that could’ve gone wrong had it not been put together so thoughtfully. Rather, it plays out as a sonic adventure with something for everyone but also the capacity to open minds by placing songs in the right context. Give the whole project a listen below and grab a copy here if you like what you hear.

[Electronic] Yung Wall Street – Baby

Yung Wall Street
Baby

With the volume of dope Soundcloud releases on a daily basis, there’s bound to be a few tracks we love that don’t make it to the pages of TMN. Just like so many great tunes before it, Yung Wall Street‘s “Baby” may have fallen through the cracks if it weren’t my most played song for the last week. The Moving Castle affiliate has been a mainstay in various Dojos but his latest, Fool’s Gold-released single may be our favorite of his to date.

“Baby” features a lush soundscape accompanied by a vocal sample that absolutely explodes at the chorus. The track doesn’t do anything revolutionary from an arrangement standpoint, but it doesn’t need to. Yung Wall Street’s electro-feels are flawless bringing to mind the likes of Vindata‘s “Spirals” or Hudson Mohawke‘s “Shadows.” Peep above–if it’s your first listen, we doubt it’ll be your last.

[Hip-Hop] Rome Fortune – Love

Rome Fortune
Love

It’s always a dope feeling to see an artist you’ve been following for a while gain momentum and truly hit their stride. What proves even more rewarding, though, is those moments when an artist effectively paints that story from their perspective. Rome Fortune‘s “Love,” the second single off his upcoming Fool’s Gold debut, does just that while embodying the ultra-personal and experimental style that has brought him to this point.

Backed by airy production from oft-collaborator Cubby, Fortune serves up a detailed account of his struggles and triumphs over the last few years. Delving into the realities of making ends meet, being around for his kids and succeeding as a musician, “Love” provides an honest glimpse behind the curtains of an emerging talent. Around the 2:20 mark, Fortune’s vocals erupt into a celebratory auto-tuned croon. For some emcees that risk might not have panned out, but Rome’s comfort out of the norm makes for an endearing and emphatic conclusion. Peep this uplifting tune above–Jerome Raheem Fortune drops on February 26th and is available for pre-order here.
