British singer/songriter Michael Kiwanuka is a fresh cup of coffee for a world of drowsy, early morning, soul music. Michael comes equipped with melodic guitars, light percussion, and a voice that’s somewhere between Otis Redding, Miles Davis, Bill Withers, and Robert Pattinson. The title track of his new CD, “Home Again”, is an introspective take on the comfort and safety of home, and how you long for it when you’re away.
Home again, Michael’s new album, will be out on March 26th 2012 on Mumford & Sons‘ Communion label. Pre-orders are available.

Prepare yourself because on June 8th, New York City electro due, Ratatat will finally be releasing their full-lenth LP4. They recorded the album at the same Old Soul Studios in Catskill, N.Y., where, as Paste describes it, is where they found the wealth of old synths, harpsichords, grand pianos, and other keyboard instruments evident throughout the last effort.
Ratatat – Grape Juicy City
The duo consisting of guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer, bass player, and producer Evan Mast, were my first introduction to the experimental genre with their synthesized /electronic/ experimental/ trip/hop style. They are able to produce multi-instrumental beats that are not only non-intrusive but incredibly organic. No matter how synthesized some of the melodies may appear, their music stays grounded to a genuine acoustic feel that makes the entire experience feel very natural. Ratatat caters to everyone, using enough rhythmic bass lines to please hip/hop fans of the like of Kid Cudi, while still creating provocative and melodic psychedelic guitar solos for the hardcore experimental junkies.
Ratatat – BARE FEAST
Ratatat – MAHALO
Lets face it, most Americans have been affected by the slow economy these past few months.. including yours truly (main reason why I am not at SXSW right now). But so what? Life has got to go on no matter what happens and keeping a positive attitude goes a long way. Upcoming indie artists Kidd Russell not only believes this is true but emphasizes that the small things in life and the people we surround ourselves with is what ultimately gives us all the wealth we need. This fun and catchy song will be available on his new album Backyard Heroes dropping March 27th.

Aside from, hopefully, featuring great songs, we feel like in 2010 we’ve got to step our game up and be on top of the latest releases. What is there to look up to this January? You’ve come to the right place. Here are a couple of new releases we are looking for.
![flying-lotus flying lotus2 [New Releases] First 2 Weeks of January 2010](http://themusicninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/flying-lotus2.jpg)
Flying Lotus is all about exploring the experimental possibilities of other genres. He released a couple of tracks a couple of months back giving Lil Wayne some glitches and dreamy synthesized melodies converting the track into a surreal experience. He’s a well involved artist that produces his own music and always stays current remixing new songs. If you do not know a thing about this guy, listen to a couple of his previous work below. Massage situation came out in 2007 in his Reset EP; Rickshaw is the 7th track in L.A. EP 1 X 3 from 2008; and the last goodie is a remix from another experimental/electronic DJ Nosaj Thing.

The much anticipated OK GO album is dropping next week! I remember discovering them in 2007 thanks the “Here It Goes Again” music video that completely won the internet over. While we wait for Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, here is a song from the official Soundtrack 90210 released back in October 2009.

Contra is the second album by American indie rock band Vampire Weekend. The release of the album is, according to the band’s website, planned to be January 11, 2010 in the UK, and January 12 in the U.S. Just as their eponymous debut album, Contra is being released on XL Recordings. “Horchata” was released as a free download on October 5, 2009 on the band’s website. I’ve also attached a very tropical tune from Toy Selectah Mex More.

Mancunian Band Delphic will be releasing ‘Acolyte’ on January 11th. Its been reported that the BBC considers it to be one of the big break out bands of 2010. We’ll have to see how it all pans out this year but these guys have definitely become one of our favorites. And a little bonus remix from French DJ 835

Music that will make you feel good about waking up and going to work/school/etc. I am not a morning person and I always need something, a side from my alarm clock, to motivate my ass to get up from bed. These are not necessarily all energetic songs but they are designed to make waking up a little less painful.
