[Downright Funky] Stevie Wonder – Superstition (Monolith Remix)

Let’s get one thing straight; Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ is a classic. If an artist attempts to emulate the insane levels of funk that the original achieves, then they have just set themselves a hefty challenge as far as remixes go. Luckily for LA/NYC based producer Monolith, his effort well and truly nails it with a sound that could easily be mistaken for Justice, which is pretty much the highest form of praise I could imagine in the world of electronic music. After hitting play, it takes all of about five seconds to realise your body is about to be uncontrollably taken over by that infectious groove. If by this point you still find yourself immune, then that jazz piano breakdown is sure to melt whatever resistance you could possibly muster. If you’re somehow still not sold on this one, then something is seriously wrong with you and I would consult your nearest medical specialist immediately. While EDM has clearly been defined as the sound of the new generation, it’s music such as this which helps to bridge the gap between eras. Monolith has succesfully brought this old-school jam into the realm of the new, creating a track that would be hard for anyone not to enjoy.

[Seriously Funky] The Beatles x Carlos Santana x Griz x Gramatik – Don’t Let Me Change (Ego Mashup)

DJ Ego calls this new tune a Mash-up, but the truth is that the track is a piece of turntablism similar to C2C or The X-Ecutioners. Really a fabulous track. Really, this track is a mash-up with a mash-up, Ego using Gramatik’s  Beatle’s mash of ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ (listen below). The addition of Griz + Santana is pure funkadelic genius!

[Hip hop/Funk] Yasumo – “Can’t Stop”

Australian magic is hitting The Music Ninja once again, this time with Yasumo – a funk/afrobeat production with the right doses of pop and hip hop. There’s not a whole lot of info out there about these guys, but you can peruse their sick Soundcloud collection. “Can’t Stop” sounds a marriage between East Coast dance pop and underground party hip hop, a sound these guys love to dabble in when they aren’t funkifying their world music influences.
