T’was that time of the year again! One of the most anticipated summer music festivals just took Southern California by storm. We’re talking about HARD Summer, which ran its course with a weekend filled with epic festivities. Besides the newly-added option for camping, this year’s festival offered a superb lineup that definitely shined the spotlight on many up and coming artists, especially those in the electronic dance music scene. We know that words won’t do it any justice, but we’ll take a crack at giving you our FIVE favorite acts from the weekend.

Slushii

When we got the word that a “surprise guest” would come out during Slushii‘s debut set, we would’ve never guessed it’d be Skrillex, who actually surprised Slushii too. Julian Scanlan a.k.a Slushii played “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”, and Skrilly jumped up on the DJ stand. “Make some noise for the future right here” were his words – pretty high praises from the dance music icon, as Julian’s dynamic set definitely got the whole place buzzin’. Check out this video below that captured the amazing moment.

[Deep House] Majestic – Hard (Dub)

Majestic
Hard (Dub) [Produced by That Guy]

London creator Majestic came with some fire to start off February. “Hard (Dub” is his upcoming single that will be released through Random Mandem. Fellow Londoner That Guy produced this minimal record that was premiered last week by Danny Howard. Lovers of deep house are going to lose their minds over this production, who’s melodic grooves are pure funk. It’s bustling sound will have listeners dancing through the song’s entirety without hesitation. Once the first tone enters your ear, your head starts bobbing. “Hard (Dub)” has that classic club sound that you imagine hearing at 3AM coming out of an intimate nightclub. Stay tuned for a release date on this original, as there is not one set yet, but because it’s been uploaded to Soundcloud, we imagine it won’t be too long. For now, stream it!

[Mash-Up] Giorgio Moroder vs. SBTRKT – Chasing Pharaohs (Destructo Edit)

Giorgio Moroder vs. SBTRKT
Chasing Pharaohs

While we’re not entirely sure how Destructo -who by day runs one of the country’s largest event production companies in HARD– even has time to maintain a budding solo career, we’re pretty happy with the fruits of that labor. The genre bending producer added another personal milestone to the list with 10,000 Soundcloud followers, and as a gift to those loyal fans he’s chosen to give away an edit of the great Giorgio Moroder’s late 70’s hit “Chase” and “Pharaohs” from SBTRKT’s incredible 2011 self-titled LP. This one has been played out in a number of Destructo’s live sets, and we’re sure now as a free download will make it into many a DJ’s performance as Summer replaces itself with Autumn. Giorgio’s French pop-disco track actually sails quite smoothly over SBTRKT’s bass heavy, and groove laden sound signifying what we already knew… Destructo has an amazing set of ears in regards to what will sound good on a real set of PA’s. Grab the edit above Ninjas.
