After a themed episode and a week off, i had way too much music for this episode. I decided to focus on a couple artists I’ve seen live recently, several quality new hip-hop releases and some pretty electronic beats. My favs from this episode include revisiting a classic Talib Kweli cut, a groovy new single from Still Woozy, Black Milk’s smooth bars, Ross From Friends‘ stellar Brainfeeder debut and Four Tet‘s gorgeous Bicep remix. – Ash

After a month out of the studio, we had a ton going on during this week’s episode of TMN Radio. Co-host Dom is embarking on a new life journey and will be moving to London next week so we bid him farewell for now–opening and closing the show with London-inspired tracks. We also had special guest Still Woozy to premiere his incredible first solo single and share some of his wide-ranging inspiration.

Of course, there was plenty of new music to share as well featuring Tyler Hawkins, Bobby Nourmand, Odesza, Yaeji, Mac DeMarco, Kendrick Lamar & more!

[Hip-Hop] Joey Bada$$ – Get Paid

Joey Bada$$
Get Paid

NYC emcee Joey Bada$$ is back with a new tune that is a dose of that throwback rap. The single “Get Paid” is a dope, head-nodding track that gives off a 90’s basement rap feel with knocking bass and cool lyrics that don’t sell him out as an emcee. The young rap star puts his Pro Era team on as he gives listeners a sense of what drives him–money, the mythical root of all evil and driving force of capitalism. As soon as the boom-bap production of DJ Relly Rell hits, Joey is poised on the track and commands the mic with an aggressive flow.

This is the second single off Joey’s upcoming debut album, B4DA$$. Although no drop date has been confirmed yet for the project, fans can whet their appetites knowing that production from Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, and Hit-Boy will be featured on the LP. Take a listen to the fresh single now and be sure to catch him on his latest tour.

[Hip-Hop] Joey Bada$$ – Two Lips (Prod. J Dilla)

Joey Bada$$ x J Dilla
Two Lips

Joey Bada$$, one of Brooklyn’s youngest and brightest talents, has become known for his fresh take on the sounds of his hip-hop predecessors. Over the last couple years he has repeatedly proven an unmatched ability to deliver intelligent, clean bars over classic beats from the likes of MF Doom, Lord Finesse and, his personal favorite, J Dilla. On Joey’s latest offering, he gets a chance to spit over a previously unreleased beat from the late, legendary Dilla with incredible results.

J Dilla’s relaxed, lo-fi backdrop sets the scene for one of the young emcee’s dopest tracks both in terms of delivery and lyricism. “Two Lips” fits with Joey’s recent shift towards a darker, grittier and more contemplative style, while displaying the impressive evolution of his flow. The above track came out of a collaboration between the J Dilla Foundation, which provides instruments and music classes to low-income children, and Akomplice Clothing. It will be available online on November 29th as a limited edition vinyl to go along with a Dilla-inspired line from Akomplice here, and all proceeds will go to the cause.

NYC emcee Joey Bada$$ is back again with another dope track for your listening enjoyment. The single “Day in the Life” has the young spitter flexing his lyrical prowess over some Harry Fraud production. The smooth jazz influenced drums, keys, and horns make for a nice throwback beat for the 2013 Freshman class rapper to dominate. This track is impressive and can be heard on Peter Rosenberg‘s upcoming New York Renaissance mixtape, dropping later this year.

[Hip-Hop] Joey Bada$$ – Unorthodox (Prod. DJ Premier)

Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound has brought together a dream duo with Joey Bada$$ and DJ Premier. With Joey’s Brooklyn twang and old school flow over Premo’s patented spins, it feels like the track was pulled straight out of 1995 (the year he was born in case you wanted a fun fact). As he’s been doing for the past few months, the young New Yorker delivers lyrical complexity far beyond his years, leaving us to wonder just how potent he can be as an emcee.
