[NEW] Kid Cudi – Satellight Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon (Album)

’Kid Cudi – Balmain Jeans (feat. Raphael Saadiq)’
’Kid Cudi – Too Bad I Have To Destroy You Now’

In true ninja fashion, Kid Cudi just sneakily released his highly anticipated prequel to the next chapter of the MOTM series on iTunes. On first listen, Satellight Flight continues Cudi’s spacey, introspective and theatrical narrative all the while progressing his newfound production prowess with several lengthy instrumental portions. Don’t expect to hear much rapping from the moon man, but also keep in mind that this is more of a precursor to Man on the Moon Pt. 3 than a feature album in itself. From an artistic perspective, musicians like Kid Cudi deserve more respect than they receive for attempting to do something larger than just release a series of singles.

It is difficult not to think of Beyonce‘s spur-of-the-moment release as a catalyst for this kind of roll out. It will be exciting to see how this pans out and who else follows in Queen Bey’s footsteps.  Check out a couple tracks above and head over to iTunes to cop the whole project.

Talking Good Music and Vibes with Aer [TMN Exclusive Interview]

’Aer – Spades, Clubs & Diamonds’

The most innovative artists are often those who transcend and challenge genre constraints. Over the last couple years, Boston-based Aer have shown an admirable disregard for categorization, steadily building a following with their sunny, style-fusing sound. Today marks the release of Aer’s sophomore album, an appropriately self-titled project that truly captures their essence. From start to finish, Aer feels like the young duo’s most cohesive project to date, progressing their sound and narrative to a new level of maturity. I was lucky enough to chat with the guys behind Aer, Carter and David, and found them to be full of good vibrations, just like their music. Stream a few tracks above, check the interview down below and make sure to head to grab the album HERE.

TMN: Let’s start at the beginning. I know you met in high school and were part of a larger band back then. I was curious, what was the name of your band and what kind of music were you playing when you first started?

Carter: We were called Moken Airwalk, which is kind of funny, because some people are trying to draw the connection that we took the name Aer from Airwalk, but it was unrelated. We were a 4-piece band—it was vocals, guitar, bass and drums. The music was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers so it was kind of like smooth melodic rock, but we also had a lot of hard funk.

TMN: Tell us a bit about your progress and growth in the last few years and how things have changed since the inception of AER.

David: The focus hasn’t really changed at all. It’s still been about us enjoying, growing and sharing our experiences through the music. But what has changed is just the amount of fans has grown and it’s crazy to see that. To go to these shows in different parts of the world, even now like in Europe, to see fans come out is incredible. To me, that’s really the only thing that feels like it has changed. We still work with the same people; we still have the same team from the get-go and have just been building on top of it.

TMN: One of the things I love about your music is how hard it is to categorize. How would you describe your music to someone who had never heard it before? What kind of genres would you include?

Carter: I alway just try and tell people to listen to three songs and then make their own definition because it’s definitely hard like you said. But I always include, in no particular order, the words alternative, rock, hip-hop influence, reggae and some pop aspects too. If I had to compare it with some artists, I normally say Black Keys, Kid Cudi, Sublime and maybe Slightly Stoopid all in a big pot. Stir it all up, serve it up, put some butter and maybe some sauce on top, and see how you like it after that.

‘Tis definitely the season for musical gifts. To most people’s surprise, Cleveland native Kid Cudi is back with a brand new track for our listening pleasure. As always, Cudi is not afraid of experimenting with his sound. He keeps the mood dark but interesting with a genre-crossing sound and melancholy vibe. Mixing together a blend of singing and rapping over trippy, atmospheric production, this track is reminiscent of his Man on the Moon flow. This is the first track off his upcoming EP, Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, however no release date is confirmed yet. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy a journey through the otherworldly sound of the rager.

King Chip, formerly known as Chip tha Ripper, has always been a ninja favorite for his unique brand of smooth, laid-back raps. When you add his fellow Cleveland native, Kid Cudi, to the picture the outcome never fails to be dope. On a standout from Chip’s latest mixtape, 44108, the dynamic duo, and Wicked Awesome labelmates, team up with G.O.O.D. Music’s man of the hour Pusha T for a refreshingly original track.

On “Vortex,” Cudi and Dot da Genius (aka WZRD) team up for a psychedelic, guitar and piano-laden beat setting the tone perfectly for a song about a dangerous love interest. Cudder creates one of his trademark hooks taking his vocals up an octave from what we’re used to. Pusha T continues his relentless streak of vicious bars and King Chip continues the maturation of his style delivering with the confidence of a vet.

Enjoy this great track above and, if you’re digging it as much as we are, make sure to grab the whole 44108 project, which includes a number of other notable features, for free HERE.

Solo Dolo Pt. 2 (ft. Kendrick Lamar)

I’m not sure I really need to say much to persuade you to listen to this track, but for any Kid Cudi fans out there this might just be a dream come true. The man on the moon, who has been consistently delivering incredible tracks from his upcoming album, teams up with the recently omnipresent and always dope Kendrick Lamar for the sequel of a classic Cudi cut.

“Solo Dolo Pt. 2” trakes the psychedelic feel of the original to new heights allowing two of the most creative artists out to display some of their best verses to date. Kid Cudi’s Indicud drops April 23rd and has all the signs of a masterpiece thus far. Not many better ways to start the week off!

What better way to kick off your March than with some new Kid Cudi? The self-produced track features a crooning Cudi bragging about his sudden perception of immortality over a sped-up, reversed sample of MGMT‘s “Congratulations.” Sonically, “Immortal” seems closer to last year’s WZRD project, especially considering that Cudder has his own 30-second guitar solo late into the song. Indicud may still be a little over a month away, but at least we have some fantastic material to tide us over until April 23rd.
